I wish we had done this first think when we arrived it Kauai - I would have appreciated what I was seeing on the island so much more than I did. First off there are a number of paths in acres of land available to explore for no cost. The guided tour involved riding a comfortable bus into the lower part of the gardens with about 20 people. Our guide told us about the history of the gardens, the work and research currently underway, and how the plants were used by Hawaiians and Polynesians for food and medicine - and where movies were shot. Each area seemed more beautiful than the last. Orchids hide in the trees, gingers bloom along the way, fountains provide sensory excitement visually and audibly. Well worth the money in my opinion.
