Review of Prince Kuhio Park

Prince Kuhio Park
Reviewed June 26, 2013

This is a lovely, quaint park with historic building foundations, fabulous views and a nice little pond. A quiet place to get away from the tourist crowd. Thankfully, this is an historic location so the likelihood is slim that they'd put in a tourist playground here for people who don't see any value to simple, serene, and culturally valuable places.

My husband and I have visited Kauai on seven different occasions and I've only ever seen this place in use once for some type of family reunion. The lawn stays perpetually dead, there are very few trees and there's pretty much nothing to see or do there. They would get a ton more traffic if it had playground equipment for the kids. Instead, it sits vacant and unused. There's covered pavilion space but no bathrooms. It's across the street from the beach but it's too rocky to enter the water there. So what you have is basically an empty park -- it makes me sad every time we go by it. What a waste.

When we visited in June last year, this park was bone dry, but here at the end of April, it was green as can be.
There has been a lot of rain. This monument marks the birth place of Prince Kuhio. Having visited the Kauai Museum in Lihue this trip, we had a new appreciation for the Prince. We also learned that the expensive residential development behind the park has recently donated 16 additional acres and that's a good thing for the community.

this is a tiny park with a lovely statue. certainly worth a visit but nothing special. The whole visit will take 5 minutes.
