My husband went to Tidepools on the last night of our honeymoon. We were looking to splurge on a romantic dinner and this restaurant did not disappoint! From the amazing ambiance (we had a table right on the water, constantly entertained by the koi), to the superb waiter Les (knowledgeable, friendly, and hilarious), to the delicious food (especially the macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi), we could not have asked for a better dining experience on our last night on Kauai!

The tidepools restaurant is beautiful. It is designed like a traditional Hawaiian thatched roof open air huts. It is surrounded by Coy ponds. The service and food is top notch.

Food was good but the service was terribly disappointing. We made reservations almost 1 month before the date and had mentioned it was a 50th Anniversary celebration. We had requested a table near the perimeter as these are the most scenic and we wanted this to be special for the celebrating couple as it was 10 years prior when they dined here (at a good table!) and had often spoken of what a special night it was. We followed up with two phone calls to request a good table and then visited in person a few days before the event. We walked the restaurant with a staff member and pointed out some of the areas that looked good. He said specific tables could not be guaranteed, but that we would have a better chance at a good table if we came earlier than our reservation time of 6:30. He then stated that reservations for the one table in particular required a $600 fee in addition to the cost of the meal? We arrived early on the night of the reservation and were subsequently placed in what was one of the worst tables in the restaurant (a table we had specifically said we did not want on our walk through of the restaurant a few days earlier) – the hostess claimed all the other good tables were reserved for large parties. After much complaining and meeting with the manager (who said nothing could be done) we were finally placed in a semi-decent table. Why the manager or staff could not do this from the beginning is beyond me. Despite the bad start to the evening, our server that night was knowledgeable and efficient. All appy’s were good but typical small hotel restaurant type portions. Steaks were excellent and cooked as requested but some seafood was overcooked and the mashed sweet potatoes were like paste. The 300% plus mark up on the wine was a little surprising. We are not typically complainers, but given the occasion and ample advanced notice, we thought they could have made a little more effort – maybe we received sub-par service because we weren’t actually guests at the Hyatt. An evening that was meant to be special turned out to be quite average.

We celebrated our anniversary at Tidepools last night and we are so glad we did. The setting is beautiful and has a very romantic vibe. We started with cocktails in the lounge while we waited for our table. It's a very comfortable area to sit and enjoy a drink. We then moved into the dining room where we had a wonderful meal. I chose the Opa- it was fantastic! This dish is a very mild white fish topped with crab. A good choice if you are picky about seafood. My husband chose the filet and lobster tail. The filet was perfectly grilled and the lobster melted in our mouths. Our server then treated us to the creme brûlée. Which was very good. We will visit again for special occasions. After dinner we enjoyed walking the beautiful grounds and taking in the views.

My husband and I ate here for our anniversary and it was fantastic. It was fun to be so close to the water, very romantic. Our service was good but the food was excellent, my husband never likes to eat out and he still talks about this meal.
