I will 1st qualify my review by saying that we did show up 1/2 late for our 7:30 reservation, but we did call an hour in advance and were told it would be no problem. Also when we arrived the place was not at capacity. That being said, let me start by saying the setting of this restaurant is gorgeous, with the koi ponds running all around and throughout it lends a surreal ambiance.
we started our evening being seated in the middle of a room with a more distant view of the ponds (I attributed it to being late and perhaps should have asked to be seated somewhere else). It took a good 15 mins. for us to put in a drink order, and while sitting and waiting we were noticing how much more glaring the lighting was in the center than over the tables on the perimeter of the ponds (kind of off-putting). By the time we got our 2 glasses of wine there were a couple of empty tables near us and on the perimeter that had emptied (again should have asked to move but assumed they were previously reserved. The fact is only one was refilled. Anyway, we ordered our apps. (we split the fish cakes). They were excellent, great texture, plenty of fish flavor, and perfect seasoning. I would recommend these to anyone. From here it was down hill all the way. First, it was hard to get the waitress back to order a bottle of wine, so we again sat for 10-15 mins. without. In the meantime, enter a party of 10 to be seated right next to us, and in a room of 4 two's and 2 four's. needless to say it got very loud. But, worse than loud, they ALL had their cell phones wailing away (texting, take pictures, facebooking, etc.) There were 4 adults?, 5 teenage girls (2 of which were well behaved and seemed cognizant of their surroundings), and a 10 yr. old boy. Dad had his ear bud in throughout the meal! I finally changed my seat at the table so that I wasn't looking at all the commotion and LED lights flashing. Others around us were annoyed also. To top it off we overheard them talking about being some of them being employed at another Hyatt in So. Cal.. Anyway, when we were finally served, we got two very dry overcooked pieces of fish ... very uninspiring! All and all, our worst dining experience in 14 days(on 2 islands), and definitely $180.00 NOT well spent. Maybe it was just an unfortunate series of circumstances (or poor management)!

We had dinner at Tidepools and thought it was the best we had on the island. The service was outstanding. We started with the wasabi dusted calamari, which was good. I had the mahi mahi and loved it. My husband had the opha and loved his as well. We finished the meal off with the molten chocolate cake (order in advance) for a perfecting ending. The setting was beautiful with koi ponds and waterfalls. I definitely recommend Tidepools.

As fellow reviewers suggest, the ambience of this restaurant is superb--open air literally over tidepools, polynesian touches and plenty of separation between tables so you can actually enjoy a romantic dinner. Service was attentive and the menu broad enough for anyone to find something to like. We are hard to wow with cuisine and weren't blown away by our evening meal, yet neither were we disappointed. The drinks were excellent, the crab cakes very good, the prime rib tender, and the "free anniversary dessert" absolutely decadent. Add that to the beautiful and conversation-friendly setting and it was an awesome dining experience, plus not not over-priced compared to many on the island. Try it!

Grandson loved wandering over the area. Pretty views, great for kids. Public restrooms closed, porta potties, OK to visit but didn't return and probably will not on next trip
