“The Beach House Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2006

We ate at the Beach House restaurant with another family our last night in Poipu. It was fantastic! Go about a half hour before sunset to enjoy the views, make a reservation, and be sure to ask for a table by the window (It would not have been the same in the back of the restaurant!!!) The food was wonderful!! The setting was beautiful. The restaurant is simple, but food and beach views great! It was pretty pricey - I think it was $300 for a family of 4, with 2 hungry teens and drinks, appetizers (the crab cakes are great!!) and dessert (delicious chocolate souffle) plus 4 dinners. A must do in Poipu!

We made all of our dinner reservations several weeks before the vacation, which worked out great. All was taken care of, and we didn't have to worry about dinner, or wait with all the crowds. Plus, we were hungry early with the time zone difference! We liked everyplace we ate, but I think the Beach House may have been our favorite. The food at Casa Blance was the BEST! really delicious!! and reasonably priced. Tidepools had a beautiful, tropical, lush setting with good food, and the Plantation Gardens was pretty, quiet and very good also. We even liked Keoki Paradise, which is very fun and very tropical, but the food is just average - don't expect too much that way - but it was very fun there!

“Spectacular Romantic Dinner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2006

My Fiance and I are from Miami.. and we're used to eating at many on the water, romantic restaurants (Miami and the Keys have sooo many of them!); but, we were completely blown away by our dinner experience at the Beach House. We did make our reservation 1 month in advance and asked for the table closest to the water (if I remember correctly we were seated at table #11... and, it really IS the best seat in the entire house!) The sunset takes your breath away, the food is to die for (the crab cakes and the wasabi crusted fish were great!) and the mai tais were the best we had on the island. DEFINITELY a truly special dining experience while on the island (and, we actually hiked the Nualolo-Awa-awapuhi Trail earlier that day and cleaned up just fine in the Koke Lodge bathrooms!!) The Beach House provided a fulfilling and romantic end to a spectacular day.

I liked the Beach House. I was a bit hesitant based on other reviews but it's important to note that (i) if you are looking for a nice place to dine in Kauai, there really aren't a lot of options so just go ahead and book at Beach House. (ii) As far as costs go, Hawaii overall is expensive. There are places in Kauai that are not so nice and cost just as much and sometimes more than a nice place like Beach House so you may as well dine here. Having learned that, I would definitely recommend this place. It's not that it is so fabulous but it is going to be one of the best things you can get on this island. The Beach House was good and even more worthwhile if you call ahead and get a reservation next to the ocean. Even at night, the view is nice. The pork tenderloin and the chicken and the molten chocolate dessert are very good. The mussels were good but they only give you five of them. Also, cokes are not free refills--wish they had told us that before spending $10 just on soft drinks. What place in America does not give you free refills???

“BEST food on Kauai !!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2006

It is expensive, but the prices really aren't out of line. $200 for three of us to eat dinner here and we didn't have any wine. (But that does include the tip.) Views at this restaurant are quite nice, but the food is pretty amazing, too. I would say that this restaurant is as good as any top notch restaurant in NYC or LA.

Be sure to make reservations several weeks in advance for a window table at sunset. If you don't mind the prices, you MUST eat at the Beach House when you visit Kauai!!
