I can’t believe I overlooked reviewing The Beach House on our return to the UK from Kauai but I did!
Now it is time to set the record straight and heap praise on what was one of our highlight meals of our Hawaiian trip.
The Beach House prides itself on being in a fantastic location to enjoy the sunset and they are not wrong. To appreciate this make sure you make a reservation and do it early. The prime tables filled up very quickly around us as we took our seats and in no time at all the entire restaurant was pretty full. With the large windows open and the ocean almost in touching distance this truly is one of the best restaurant sites we have visited. Even with the openness of the room there was a great ambiance. The food was just as good as the view. We chose two excellent fish dishes for the mains, both very different and both delicious.
During the early courses a professional photographer will ask if you would like a sunset picture taken. We took up the offer and were delighted with the results.
As the sun sets most of the guests wander out on to the lawn and take some photos of their own. The restaurant staff do not discourage this, in fact it is one of the Beach Houses’ USP’s
Special praise must go to our server Bonnie who embraced the fact that it was our 30th wedding anniversary holiday and made sure we enjoyed a very special evening. The night ended watching the stars appear over the ocean enjoying a complementary dessert to celebrate our last night on Kauai. The staff signed a lovely card to pass on to us as a lasting memory of The Beach House.

I called months in advance for a reservation after hearing about the amazing food and spectacular views of sunset. The staff failed to tell me that they had 2 seating times, one before sunset and one after so my 7pm reservation got me a nice seat against a wall. For a pricy restaurant, the food was average. I complained to the manager about the reservation and he offered to pay for our dessert, which was nice, but didn't replace the sunset. Keep your expectations in check if visiting.

The views can't be beat except for the amazing food and the very helpful servers. Clyde was our waiter and he was very knowledgable with the menu and offered his take on the entree choices. Our meal was excellent. The only thing we were a bit disappointed in was the beet salad, five sliced beets for $10.
We will be back!

Food was not good--bland, overcooked. The calamari, for example, was six or seven fat chunks of fish with a TV-dinner style presentation and flavor. However, sunset views are stunning and servers are very nice.

The Beach House would serve visitors and locals better if it served soft-serve ice cream. A stand. To watch a beautiful sunset sans overly-salted food, longer than kind-wait-time at the bar, and valet - seriously?

On the Island of Kauai. A want to-be Malibu Beach House. I'm not a fan of it's over priced, and sub marginal fare.

The Crispy Panko Crusted Calamari ($12) are deep-fried, I really believed someone ordered fried mozzarella (like not at my table!) that is how they appeared. Terrible.
The thai inspired Crab Cakes with a mango ginger aioli were much tastier but loose - like, not much crab. The saving savory starter was the Kaua'i Grown Beet Salad ($10) were fresh yellow & red firm beets with Gorgonzola, and Guava smoked Alae Salt - again, every item was overly salted.

Entrées were Island Catches of Mahi Mahi ($MP) with Macadamia Nuts served in a sickening-rich citrus aka miso beurre-blanc with you guessed it, salt. The Grilled Hawaiian Catch ($36)- should have been tossed back into the Pacific - it was dry. The Wahoo (Ono) were three-fillets, one inedible due the saltiness and hardness.

The very attentive & apologetic blue-eyed Taylor, as server brought my table of five's dismay to the Managing Partner, Tim O., who oh never made it to our table. The sunset was awesome - there left on a positive note.
