While staying at the Sheraton in Poipu, we enjoyed evening strolls in nearby Moir Gardens on the grounds of Kiahuna Plantation resort. The garden has many lovely orchids and bromelaids as well as cacti and succulents. The free gardens were listed in our AAA book along with a little history. The gardens were created by Alexandra Moir, wife of Kōloa Sugar Plantation manager Hector Moir; she began planting the garden after their marriage in 1930. By 1948, the garden had an international reputation. I recommend a short, relaxing visit.
