Description: In a casual yet elegant setting of an Old Hawaii Plantation, Chef-Owner Peter Merriman serves his unique style of Hawaii Regional Cuisine in Kauai's Poipu. A pioneer in the "Farm to Table" concept, Peter serves only the freshest products, at least 90% of which are locally grown or caught, using only sustainable methods. His international menu items are prepared in a manner that highlights the natural flavors of these fresh and local foods. Located in Poipu, we feature both mauka (mountain) and makai (ocean) views as well as sunset views over the Kukui'ula resort. We offer a premium bar upstairs, a downstairs cafe for casual dining, and over 1,000 bottles of wine in our cellar. Our facilities can host private parties and meetings. Our aloha-friendly staff, with a food and beverage knowledge second to none, will ensure that you have an extraordinary dining experience.

“Ist visit great, 2nd visit the polar opposite”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

After our previous experience two nights prior, the standard was set. We had a great time on Tues., and we sat at the bar, Emma was great as well as the food & wine. $300.++ for two people, gladly spent. We returned on Thursday, bringing our son we'd flown over from Maui. Poor service, insultingly slow with a half full room and a reservation. When we were FINALLY approached, even though we had waited at bar 10 minutes past reservation time, waitress enthusiastically ran an aggressive evening of attempted "up-selling," her biggest objective. She didn't have to, we own a restaurant, and wanted to eat and drink well! Scampi we're mealy, not half as fresh as the previous meal 2 nights before, and smaller, missing some of their heads and tails, insultingly different product. The waitresses blatant attempts to sell us more at every table visit far outweighed anything else. Some great poke (we ordered all 3) but this visit, contrary to my review of Tuesday's (all 10's with Emma AND the food on Tuesday) was so polar opposite, we left Kauai with a very poor memory of our service and food the second visit. I guess its a 50/50 chance, your money, your gamble.

“Well worth the visit!!”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Merriman's Fish House proved to be well worth the visit. Food was prepared expertly. I had the macadamia crusted monchong with green beans and rice. They offer two sizes on the entrees and the difference is 3.5 oz vs 7 oz of the fish. However the price difference is only $6 so may as well go for more protein. We had the white chocolate and coconut filled malasadas which are a kind of filled fried pastry. Tasty but not decadant. Nice ambiance. Well worth the visit and would return!

“Go somewhere else - not worth it here”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Came highly recommended by one of the expedia reps at the resort - as a good choice for local food. The food was ok - overpriced for what it was, and the server brought a fish with mushroom sauce after asking for no mushrooms. When confronted about the mushrooms the server said he would bring a new fish with no mushroom sauce and came back with what turned out to be the same fish with the sauce wiped off it. Still tasted like mushroom and still had the knife cut from when the fish was first served to us. Go somewhere else - not worth it here.

“Decent food, but overpriced”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

The food was good, but the prices are very high. We even went on kama aina (locals) night which was 50% off and I still felt it was not quite worth the price. Does not live up to the hype in my opinion. It is also in a shopping center with not much of a view.

“How I decided not to eat there”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

When they open at new location few years ago they had lobster night, with the best lobster on the Islands (Maine but grown in cold water on Kona coast), what I promptly reported. Last year they changed lobsters to “stuffed lobsters” which were basically the crab cakes with miniature piece of the lobster, still OK but far not special. This September we made sure that they serve lobsters again and we booked in advance, asking for a lanai table. We were 15 minutes before the time, to find that we were offered a table in the middle of the restaurant and we need to wait 40 minutes for a lanai table. True, we were told at booking that they will do the best to accommodate us where we want but they did not guarantee. But being many years returning customers, willing to pay the price at one of most expensive places in Poipu, arriving before the time, we hoped for little privileges, certainly not for arrogance. What a change since the opening. We walked out, across the road, and we had great dinner in friendly atmosphere of Josselin’s Tapas (see other report). I regret I cannot report on the quality of the food, for quality of the approach towards the customer, please take the above story. My advice: if you like to follow the crowd to Merriman’s because it is expensive – book there but go to Tapas for really good food and service.
