“Hike from both directions!”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

We hiked from Shipwreck beach to the golf course at sunrise on our first morning.
Gorgeous views, blowholes and the tidepooling were worth the trip.

Later in our trip, we hiked from Gillin's Beach in the other direction to the end (Kipu Kai beach). Gillin's Beach and the adjacent ones were worth a trip on their own. Kids were jumping off cliffs into the water. There are hidden beaches you can explore. We were able to see a few fossils. To get to Gillin's Beach, you have to take Poipu road until it becomes a dirt road and drive in a few miles. You will pass a sign and a gate warning you to leave by 6 or be towed. They enforce this, so take it seriously.

On our last hike, we started at Gillin's beach and hiked towards Shipwreck beach (to the golf course) to complete the circuit. Near the stables, there is an amazing cave that we didn't have time to explore. Some of the paths in that area are labeled, and there are some written guides if you happen upon them.

We learned after our trip that you can rent the guest house on Gillin's Beach. My husband is determined to do this in the future!

This area has many rewards for visiting. I highly recommend exploring at your leisure!

“great walk”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

we parked at the beachfront lot in front of the Grand Hyatt; and hiked from there ...Take your camera as the scenery is fantastic !
The trail does wander around, divide, rejoin, etc and is even hard to follow in places.
The highlights for me were the fantastic coastline vistas, the turtles playing in the surf; the vistas over Poipu Golf course, the cave, and the beach at Makawehi

“Great little hike along the Mahaulepu Heritage Coastal Trail”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We started the trail at Shipwreck Beach and did more of a leisurely walk than a hike since the trail isn't particularly strenuous and the views were amazing. The trail is only about 4 miles round trip and follows the coast but ranges from right down by the water to the top of some of the cliffs. The trail is often very sandy (or mainly sand) so I would recommend wearing something more than just flip flops. It was quite windy when we did the hike so heat wasn't really an issue but I would definitely recommend bringing water with you just in case.

“Worth finding this spot”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

This is an out-of-the way place that requires a 20 minute drive over some tough roads and a short hike. But, it is absolutely beautiful and worth the effort.

“Hot but beautiful hike”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

This is a fairly easy hike with beautiful views of the Pacific that ends at a beautiful, isolated beach. But, there is no shade and it can get pretty hot here, so be prepared.
