“Best stay of our Kauai Vacation”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We stayed three nights at the beginning of our Kauai Vacation. Next time we come to Kauai, we will stay here longer. We booked the hotel through Priceline at a reasonable rate. I was nervous that booking through a 3rd party, we would end up in a bad part of the hotel, especially when we saw we were towards the back across the street from the main pool and ocean. However, when we went into our room and saw our nice view (mostly garden, but some ocean), we were thrilled. We enjoyed our 4th story view and the sound of the birds. It was beautiful. We had two young children in our room with two queen beds and we were fine with the room size. There was a small fridge so we could hold food for breakfast and lunches if we needed. The walk to the pool was beautiful and enjoyable. When I read some of the reviews and looked at the map, I was concerned about being across the street from the main pool near the ocean, but the walk was under 5 minutes (remember two kids 3 and 5 years old) and enjoyable. The pool was so much fun; our children loved it. We usually swam in the mornings and after dinner and it was never crowded. All the staff were welcoming and smiled at us as we walked through in swim gear. We enjoyed getting pineapple water on our way in to the lobby to the pool. The fire circles in the resort near the ocean were inviting and relaxing. I dream of this place when I think of going back to Kauai. We would love to come back.

August 2013 - Absolutely loved the location. The buildings were beautiful and sunset great. However, to get your 'resort fee' ($30/day) you'd best not ever leave. This being my first full week visit to Kauai I wanted to explore so I never used any of the resort services.

On my 5th day I booked a snorkeling excursion and needed beach towels, called the front desk and was told to go to the poolside area and they were great, made me fill out a form in exchange. No problem. Then when we went to check out we had to return the towels to the pool area, not just leave them in the room. This would not be a big issue, but we had a garden room which meant a little walk.

Also the internet was like dial-up! Absolutely no service in building #6. Finally called the front desk, they were great quickly went one up and had a rep install it and give us the passwords. It was marginally better. Took almost 10 minutes to connect. Could not even check out on the TV like advertised.

So basically if you go to sit at the resort and never leave you should get your resort fee monies worth. If not you'll be tossing away a lot of cash that you could have spent someplace else.

Room Tip: If you get a garden room you will be closer to the parking lot but further from the ocean.

Aloha Robbin H,

Thank you for staying with us at Sheraton Kauai Resort and for sharing your experience. We are pleased you enjoyed the resort's location and facilities. However, we apologize for the inconvenience of your wireless internet while we work toward a more permanent solution. In addition to the router that was provided, Ethernet access is provided in guest rooms and computers are available at our Link@Sheraton. While our resort fee includes services such as on-site cultural activities, yoga and Poipu area car service, it also includes items such as self parking, a service enjoyed by guests who are frequently driving in and out of the resort to explore the island. We apologize if this was not clearly outlined to you during your stay. With the improvements to our internet coming soon and the ever increasing resort services and activities available, we hope you will choose to join us for your next trip to the islands. We look forward to being of service to you again.

5 star stay at 4 star property. All in, I was very happy with this choice for a 1-night stay.

Pros: tremendous view on the beach and from the restaurant - very relaxing!; great view of water from my partial ocean view room in the 3000 building (usually in hotel-speak that means you can see the ocean if you crane your neck, but here it really did have a nice view, and a deck); decent size pool area; free yoga classes; decent free mai-tai at check in (small but surprisingly strong!) and wine tasting option for SPG members; parking right outside the room; friendly staff; AC (!); less expensive than other large resort options, and it seems like they would have the same drawbacks. Fairly quiet in the mornings.

Considerations: room was clean though furniture was a little rough around the edges; buildings look a bit dated from the outside. You also have to sign out pool towels and are threatened with a $10 charge if you don't return them - didn't feel like they trusted guests as adults (I'm sure people do take them frequently, but that would seem to just be the cost of doing business at the beach). Main restaurant is a bit pricey, but has a fabulous view.

Great for a 1-3 night stay - if staying in the area longer, I'd prefer to add another stop.

My sister and I stayed there for 5 wonderful days. The best part of our day were sitting on the wall you can walk to above the water and watch the magnificent sunset with the locals! The service was great at the poolside area along with the restaurant/bar on the resort. The location was walking distance to 2 shopping centers with other restaurants. We had everything we wanted at our fingertips! What a fabulous place to stay for our first trip to Hawaii!

This was a prize won at a golf tournament on another island and we had expected less, but Sheraton Kauai was conveniently located, excellent courteous staff, clean room and breath taking ocean view, all of which made our one night stay wanting more.

The location truly is beautiful, but I have lots of reasons for being a bit tough on this Sheraton. This was a mother-daughter vacation, and we were looking forward to the fitness center among other things--we were informed at check-in that it was closed. We had wanted massages, but discovered that the massages were given in a cabana in plain view to anyone walking by. Although we were in a premium ocean-front room, we never received the perks we were entitled to with our SPG status. With the fitness center out of commission we were hoping for some nice walks--again, not to be. The only real beach walks required scheduling a shuttle to the Grand Hyatt. The area around the Sheraton is quite congested, and sidewalks are of short duration. Theoretically we could walk to local shopping, but again, no sidewalks and lots of traffic. The food was hugely over priced. The servers didn't know what was in the food, the chef and servers at Rum Fire had little interest in creating special dishes, and the fruit cups at The Link ($6) had rotten strawberries. The hotel seems eager to serve gluten free needs, but has no concern whatsoever for vegetarians or vegans--believe me, you will go hungry. And then there's the 20th century internet. If you are very lucky, you can access the 1 mbps service, though logging on could take 10 minutes. We could access the internet only on the lanai-- it disappeared inside the room.

Some other things you should know: the hotel is actually quite close to the beach, so the views are spectacular. On the other hand, the views are so good partly because the swimming pools are small. There is no pool set aside for adults only. We found the hotel staff, especially housekeeping, to be very responsive and helpful. Restaurant staff was something else altogether.

You can have a wonderful vacation at the Sheraton. The location is a convenient one in many ways, with easy access to local shopping centers with great restaurants and tempting shops. We were able to drive to the island's major attractions pretty easily. Just be aware of the hotel's limitations.

Room Tip: Be aware that the so-called "garden" rooms are actually across the street. We were pleased...

Aloha Anne N,

Thank you for your insightful feedback regarding your recent mother-daughter trip at Sheraton Kauai Resort. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the resort's location, however, we apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. There is never a good time for upgrades, and we are sorry that the fitness center was temporarily out of order during your time with us. Workout equipment has been provided for guests at our grand staircase overlooking Poipu Beach in the interim, and jogging maps are always provided by the concierge for those looking to walk or jog outdoors for cardio. We are sorry if these options were not communicated to you. With regard to your dining experience, we recognize the growing dietary needs of our valued travelers, and your comments regarding our available options have been provided to our food & beverage team. Throughout the resort, it is our goal to recognize our SPG members and provide the privileges entitled to you. Please reach out to us so that we may learn more. We look forward to the chance to be of service to you again and to exceed your expectations. Mahalo.

If I had the choice I would live there. Absolutely the best staff and the finest facility on the island. The food was excellent as well. It's convenient to anywhere you want to go, and if you don't want to leave the resort that's great!

Room Tip: It's well worth it to upgrade to a waterfront room.
