We stayed here twice and upgraded to the front ocean view rooms each time. Without the upgrade, the stay would probably be so and so but i am sure in this case the upgrade made the trips memorable.
Once we saw the garden view room that we would get normally, we knew we had to do something to make the vacation better. The garden view was ok-ish but small and dark, nothing that would feel very comfortable or would make me think i'd spend some good time there. The ocean front rooms are much larger, bright and airy, with big balconies, and unbelievable views through the entire day. This being said the vacation here was nice, restaurant and cafe by the pool were ok but across the street in the Village there were better options. We had breakfast and lunch at the hotel on occasions, did not have dinner. The pool is nice, seating was plenty but the occupancy was rather low over Thanksgiving weeks when we visited, both times. I loved the beach but most of the times there were strong waves so not the best for my young son. The "cabanas" at the beach are way overpriced and not worth renting. There are very kids friendly public beaches not far from the hotel with a nice cove and low water perfect if you wish you kids to see fish and crabs all around. One day there was a seal visiting on the rocks right in front of our balcony.

This is my 3rd time at the Sheraton on Poipu, and though changed due to the economics of the financial cutbacks of 2007-08? It remains one the premier resorts, especially for service and staffing on Kauai. The old "Shells" is now the Rum Fire Restaurant, and is just as good as it ever was, perhaps even better. Lava's on the beach, a coffee shop, fit the "bill" for breakfast easily. The grounds are STUNNINGLY beautiful and they've continued to do a superb job of keeping them up. The "resort" shop with items of clothing and accessories is gone, which is unfortunate. My room was on the 3rd floor with a partial ocean view and very nice. Room service was excellent as well as daily cleaning. Though the rooms are old? They are well kept.

This hotel seems more like a motel. After checking in we were walking to our room and found a cockroach in the stairwell. Our room was average and def needs to be updated. The fitness center was closed that week and the motel decided to put 3 cardio machines outside in the hall and call that the "gym". pathetic. hard to work out with no equiptment and in the heat. The pool area is small. While sitting by the pool one day, we ordered lunch. My husband left his money clip on the table by the empty lunch while we went into the pool for 5 minutes. When we came back the empty lunch and money clip were gone. Management didn't seem too concerned and acted like it was no big deal. I don't know how this place got 4 stars. Next time I'll stay at the Hyatt. Not worth the money here.
