“Oceanfront/Amazing views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

We stayed at the resort from 6/25/13 to 7/3/13(for our 10 yr anniversary) and were very pleased with our room (1214), the service we received, and overall experience. We booked the oceanfront deluxe room and it was well worth the extra cost. The room was very comfortable and offered amazing views of the ocean. Housekeeping was excellent and we always had fresh towels/water and a tidy room upon returning from our outtings. The only suggestion regarding the room would be to install screen sliders to the balcony as you can't leave the doors open due to bugs flying in. We left them open for about 20 mins one night and were visited by rather large bugs. With the doors closed, you cannot hear the ocean and I have always enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of waves crashing.
The staff at the resort were wonderful and always quick to respond or provide suggestions for activities, dinning and such. We booked some activities through Pleasant Activities and they were very helpful as well. The helicopter tour was excellent (blue hawaiian) and the Outfitter Kauai Kipu Safari and Zipline was well worth the money.
The day of checkout we had a late flight and the hotel allowed us use of a hospitality room to freshen up before our long flight. I thought this was very nice and very much appreciated after all day at the beach. For those of you thinking of staying on the "garden side" however, this room was not nearly as nice as our ocean front room and lacked many of the updates. Still nice, but go the extra cost for ocean front.
Now, for the few negatives..The food at the resort was nothing "special" as we tried both Lava's and RumFire. However, it was similar to many of our other experiences on the island regarding dining. It's quite pricey. A coke at Lava's was $4.00 and most mixed drinks started at $11.00. An order of 4 onion rings was almost $8.00. Having said that, the hotel did provide 2 free drink vouchers for mi-tie's and a bottle of champagne. Not sure if this is standard or where this was a special occassion.
We enjoyed some of the ammenties offered at the resort such as the pool, hot tub, lei-making which were nice and included in the resort fee ($30/day). I would suggest including some other activities such as use of the tennis court/equipment and snorkeling gear in the resort fee at that rate, if only for one day during the stay.
We would definatly stay here again!

Room Tip: Splurge for Ocean Front and ask to be away from the pool area

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton for a few days over the 4th of July. I am so glad we chose this Sheraton. The hotel is in an ideal location, right on a beautiful beach and the hotel property is beautiful and the room was all you could want for comfort, cleanliness and convenience. We booked one of the garden view rooms and had one in the main building. There is another building across the street with garden view rooms also but the main building seems to be the better place to stay. The staff is friendly and upon checkin we were given coupons for 2 free mai tais in their Lava Bar and Restaurant and also a free wine tasting event. The drinks were great and we ordered a plate of their pork nachos which was big and delicious, great little afternoon break. We had breakfast included with our room rate and this is definitely the way to go. The breakfast buffet in the Lava Restaurant was great. Food was delicious and plentiful, they even had eggs benedict which I have never seen on a buffet before. It is such a relaxing atmosphere and so peaceful looking out on the beautiful beach and pool to start your day. They have valet parking or there is self parking only about a block away. We did visit an upscale hotel in Princeville which was very pricey and honestly, we were much happier with the location and all that the Sheraton had to offer for a fraction of the price. This hotel is a great choice, the location right on the beach is wonderful. We would highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: If you don't want the added expense of an ocean view room and go with garden view, request the m...

We booked this hotel through a travel agent not realizing that "garden view" room meant across the street in the older hotel. I have no problem with being across the street from the beach, but the room itself was older, dated and just not what we expected.

One evening we wanted to get a couple of bottles of water. After parking in the self parking lot, we walked by a soda machine that would take either $5 of $1 bills. I tried a $5 bill but it would not take it. We went to our room to drop our bags then headed out across the lawn to the front desk to inquire where we could get water. The gentleman at the front desk said there should have been two bottles of water in our room when we first arrived. We told him we did not see any but he was rather insistent that they should be there either in the fridge or by the coffee maker. He also said there were two other soda machines between buildings 5 & 7 on the second and fourth floors. He changed out my $5 bill for 5 $1 bills as he said the machines would not take $5 bills (even though the one said that on the front). We walked back across the lawn and up to the second floor where we found the machine unplugged. We walked up to the 4th floor to find the other machine unplugged as well. So back to our room we went. We looked in the fridge and around the coffee maker again but found no water. We finally just gave up on getting water for the night.

Other than this one issue in trying to locate water, the front desk staff was very helpful. The pools looked nice, but we were not there long enough to try them out.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for the building beachside...not across the street.

Best lunch service ever by Jazzmine Sabian (Server). We have enjoyed two lunches served by Jazz and she is terrific. Covered up on the 4th of July, but she still managed to wait on us because she recognized us from a previous visit. She is simply awesome!!! The entire bar team was entertaining, fun and made terrific drinks. Great Job JAZZ!!!!!

The first thing I thought coming to the Sheraton Resort in Poipu was to wonder why they didn't brand it a Westin? This is definitely the nicest Sheraton I have ever visited. It's right on the beach, which is very swimmable and beautiful. The main pool, bar and restaurant are just behind the beach. You could definitely spend your whole vacation there (and judging by the dark tans and empty glasses a lot of people were). Regarding the room, my review isn't fair, because i got upgraded to a fantastic suite with a great beachfront view and outdoor dining tables and hot tub. When I checked in, I decided to upgrade to a beachfront room. I went to the room and there were suitcases in the room and clothes in the closet. Luckily (for them and for me), there weren't any honeymooners in bed! Great lesson learned - always bolt your hotel door to keep out unexpected guests. I went back to the front desk, and they were so gracious and gave me the fabulous upgrade. The resort has everything you could possibly want. It is very family oriented, so it you want an adult atmosphere, with the pool to yourself and peace and quiet, I would look elsewhere. That's not to stereotype. Everyone is welcomed here: family reunions, weddings, gay couples, seniors, families, singles, US and non-US visitors. It was crowded during July 4 week, and people would race to the pool and the beach to plop down their beach towel or flip flops to "reserve" a beach chair every day. However, I never had a problem finding a chair. The entire staff here is very professional and very friendly. I got some great restaurant reviews and directions and "insider: tips. I'm more of a Starbucks guy than an all-American breakfrast guy and the Starbucks here had great options. I'd also vote to come back to Kauai over Maui, which does have fancier resorts and bigger developments, but not as much of the authentic Hawaiian experience as you will find on Kauai.

Room Tip: A lot of reviewers mention the fact that some of the buildings are all the way across the street. Co...

We stayed in a room with a partial ocean view. The whole experience was terrific. The entire staff, from the servers to the maintenance was welcoming. The hotel itself is on beautiful property. The room is very nice and clean. The balcony is relaxing.
The restaurants are a little expensive, but not more than usual in a hotel. We were able to walk to a few places; an outdoor shopping area and a state park. There is nothing negative except maybe the average work-out room. I walked or ran outside every day so it wasn't a problem.
We had breakfast included in the package and was never disappointed. Food quality & service were superb.

Room Tip: I would not have paid any more for a different view than our 'partial ocean view.' Sitting...

Due to reasons beyond my control, I cancelled my condo reservation and ended up booking a garden view room at Sheraton. I was planning on upgrading at check in but none was available. Ok - the garden view side is across the street and motel like. Heard every noise from the adjacent room. Single sink. Old furniture. Do not recommend.

Lonnie from the front desk was eventually able to upgrade us to an ocean view room. She was creative and excellent. Provided true 'customer service' - thank you Lonnie! You made a huge difference! It was worth every penny.

BTW - the Sheraton bed is very comfy.

Hotel is overall very good. Great location. Very quite. Good hotel beach. Loved the cabanas - $26 for two hours or $50 ish for whole day. Grab them early! Has coin op laundry. If Oceanside, get wi fi router from customer service for better connection.
