I decided to book this property after eading great reviews. I was very disappointed. I had a choice of this and another property but decided on this one when the description said there were views of the harbor. Upon entering the room (on the first floor) I quickly saw that it was not a bay view. When my husband asked he was told they were not an ocean view hotel even though their website does says that some rooms have views of NawiliWili harbor. Although the continental breakfast was nice their were not very many places to sit so we brought ours back to our room. The pool was nice. we were the only ones there that had pool towels because we asked for them. On the plus side ther air conditioning worked well even though it was loud. We only stayed the one night and I would think twice about staying there again.

Very personal service, excellent morning brunch, coffee available 24/7, great view of mountains, and close to many very good dining choices in all price ranges. We will be staying there again.

This is a great hotel to stay in. It is off the main highway and is very quiet except for the normal Hawaiian alarm clocks (the crowing roosters). We are early risers so that did not bother us. It is located within a residential area and is interesting to walk around the area and see the houses. There is a park nearby where the members of the community and the local canoe club hold jam sessions - not loud and very enjoyable to listen to. The setting is fabulous and you wake to sunshine on the verdant mountain backdrop. Don't let the hotel's position near the docks put you off - you dont see the containers and the cruise ships until you are leaving the area for other parts.
The hotel has been around for a long time in one form or another and several guests we spoke to were repeat guests over several years. The staff Corrine, Paula and Dionya are friendly, helpful and glad to help in any way they can.
We had booked a queen sized room but found the bed to be no more than a double bed. We queried this and they immediately upgraded us to a King sized bedroom at no extra cost.
There is an onsite laundry for guests to use.
The hotel is a low rise double storied complex of four buildings located around a very clean swimming pool. Breakfast is served overlooking the pool. A continental breakfast but with a good variety, especially fresh fruit. There are only four tables and chairs and so it can get busy.
There is plenty of parking and the tropical gardens are maintained beautifully. There are a couple of friendly cats - in particular Jezabel with her bling collar who follows the staff around. The other large fluffy cat will come into your room if you let it. One stormy night it was sitting waiting for my husband to open the door and in it bounced, quite at home.
The upper storey rooms are larger than the lower ones. The latter have a small porch at the back which is nice if you like to sit out early morning or late evening, but it does cut into the size of the room, so I would plug for the upper storey and sit out in the open air breakfast area or around the pool. However, there is no lift so you will need to take that into consideration if you have walking difficulties or your luggage is large or heavy.
The rooms are all thankfully geko proof so don't leave your door open for them to creep in.
In the evenings, the hotel puts out some yummy trail mix and other crunchies for guests to enjoy while sitting in the breakfast area reading or using the wifi. If you are walking around the yard during the night, watch out for the toads.
The wifi is intermittent and works best in the breakfast area. It also works best early in the morning. There is a computer for use by guests but no way to print out documents.
If you want to eat cheaply you can eat at the Harbour Mall - it has a good Thai restaurant, A pizza place (also serves huge serves of good ice cream) and a Mexican place as well. There is happy hour at least two restaurants. During the day, particularly when the cruise ships are in they hold a small hula dancing session in the courtyard.
There is also a very good yarn store in the complex if you are into knitting. The other shops are mainly imported (Phillipines or China) souvenirs.
The hotel also has an affiliation with an ATV company. They offer good deals and if you are interested get the hotel to contact them on your behalf.
There is a good Times Supermarket in a large shopping complex about 10 mins drive away. Walmart is also about 10 - 15 mins drive away. It does not matter where you stay in Kauai, you will need a car to get around.
The rooms are large and the beds very comfortable. There is a large flat screen TV, a microwave, coffee machine, fridge and an iron and ironing board. The rooms are cleaned daily and the beds made.
If you wanted to self cater you could use the BBQ area at the rear of the hotel.
This hotel is good value and we highly recommend it.

This hotel has very friendly and accommodating staff. It is almost amongst Hawaiian suburbia, meaning it is in a very quiet and relaxing part of town. The place is also very clean and a good location near Lihue. The rooms are a good size and the bathroom is huge! You will need a car to reach the main attractions, but this is common on Kauai anyway.

My wife and I stayed here the second time we went to Kauai (the best island in our opinion). We went for adventure, so we did not want a fancy-spa hotel. This place was great ! We did all our hiking, water sports and exploring by day and had a clean place to stay at night. It is in Lihue, so we had close access to restaurants, coffee bars and stores. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We also made a cat friend on the back porch. One of our best memories was leaving the vent windows partially open one night for the cool breeze when a gentle thunderstorm rolled through and we could hear the rain and smell those wonderful island aromas....give it a try and save a little $$$

Stayed here for a weekend recently and I would recommend it to anyone who travelling on a budget and looking for peaceful accommodation befitting of Kauai. For the price, the Kauai Inn surely cannot be beaten. The setting is lovely, underneath the mountains just set back from the bay amongst a lot of lush greenery with only a handful of other houses nearby (please do ignore the industrial dockyard you drive through to get here – you can’t see it from the inn!). I liked that is was situated on the edge of Lihue too, you are roughly half way between Kauai’s road accessible areas both north and west and a few minutes from the airport too.

We had a nice mountain view from our 2nd floor room, 705 I think it was. The rooms themselves are a little dated, perhaps even slightly damp smelling, but they were very clean and fully functional. The bed was comfy, shower was fine and you had a full size fridge that proved handy for a self-catering trip. There was also a fully stocked kitchen in the breakfast area where you could borrow anything you needed for your own mini kitchenette, they even washed it up for you upon return. The communal areas were very nice and always clean. The grilling area with gas BBQs was an added plus and we used it two nights to dine in – again borrowing anything needed from the communal kitchen area. Laundry facilities proved useful for an adventure trip. Breakfast is outside by the office and pool, a nice way to start the day in the surroundings. It was simple but nice (cereal, toast, muffin, bagels, local breads, lots of nice fresh fruit and a selection of cakes) and in plenty supply. It could get quite busy as it’s not on for the longest time but we didn’t struggle to get a table. There is OK coffee available all day as well as juice in a fridge. There were also some very sweet and personable cats that gave the place a homely feel. In fact, we seemed to adopt them for our stay as we had one in our room and another always with us whilst sitting in the patio area at night. Don’t worry though, we encouraged them - if you’re not a cat fan you don’t have to interact. Yes there are noisy roosters, but you’ll learn that they rule all of Kauai mercilessly and there is no escaping them anywhere!

The only reason I can’t give full marks is because the wi-fi strength didn’t stretch to the rooms (you had to use it in the patio area) and there were no printing facilities attached to the communal computer (you could pay $1 per print out at the desk though). With the nature of inclement weather continually disrupting your plans, wi-fi in the room would have been a big advantage. Also, while I understand this far from a business stay kind of place, with the likes of online check-in and printing of boarding passes I think printing access is a necessity these days. In short we loved our stay here immensely and would definitely choose to stay again…

We were welcomed by a cat named Jezebelle, and on arrival knew we would be in good hands. The staff was very helpful and friendly. And the kitty cat welcoming committee was a treat. I chose this hotel after reading other Trip Advisor Reviews and looking at the website. It was pretty much as described.

The grounds are beautiful and the location is unique. It is away from the hussle of town, but not on a beach if that is what is important to you. It is the type of place that is best if you have a car rental, but then so is the island of Kauai.

The one downside is that not all the rooms have phones, and ours did not. We did not bring a cell phone from Canada, so it was a bit of an inconvenience. We did get a nice new TV though. We did not try the breakfast, we either ate out or in our rooms (mini fridge).

Room Tip: The hotel is 2 stories and if you don't want to do stairs with your luggage, ask for a main floo...
