Vacations are a time for relaxation and carefree time. I have been staying at this property for the past 19 years. It is one of the best locations on Kauai. But over the years the property has not essentially improved. Many of the condos have the same old furniture and now, the Association Rental Committee and management have reduced services. As of April 2009, there is no daily housekeeping. No changing of towels but once a week. And, there are "NO" signs all over the place... like remove shoes, don't lose the towels, smoking warnings, and don't steal the flatware... or something similar to that. Again, the location is king... but if you expect to be on a carefree vacation be prepared to empty the trash, make the beds, vacuum the floors, clean the bird poop off the lanai and on and on... I was disappointed.

Everything about unit 103 is perfect except the privacy. Understand it's 85 degrees everyday and there is no air conditioning, the only way to stay cool is to leave all the windows open along with the patio slider. The sidewalk is 4 feet away from the bedroom and the windows and curtains must be kept open to cool off! This unit should not be rented without air conditioning. Unless your an exhibitonist find another unit. The complex is wonderful, the grounds immaculate and I highly reccommend the area. We have throughly enjoyed our stay on Kauai, it's a beautiful place to visit, lots to do.

We liked the Kaha Lani a great deal. Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath in the middle of a 3 island trip (Oahu, Kauai, Maui). We wanted a condo so we did not need to go out to eat all the time. The condo is located adjacent to Lydgate Beach Park and is only 15 minutes from the airport. Check-in was easy and they gave us a list of Kauai's "sunshine markets" (farmer's markets) so we could get fresh fruit. I read some complaints about the condition of some units. Whenever you are in view of the ocean, buildings will see some deterioration. Yes, our safe was rusty. I put a towel over it. It looked like the refrigerator door was painted because of rust, but it worked and was clean (and, happily, had an ice-maker). The important things: bathroom, floors, kitchen, bedding - were clean and well maintained. Our unit was toward the back, partial ocean view, and pretty far from the pool, but we only used it twice. There is no air conditioning but really strong trade winds kept us comfortable. My only complaint is that, because of the lack of AC, ground floor condos, like ours, don't get a lot of privacy because the curtains need to be open to allow breezes in. There are 3 really nice gas grills - 2 at the pool, one by the parking lot. We bought 4 days' of breakfast, lunch, and steak for our first night's dinner to grill. How nice to eat at "home." Groceries are expensive. The condo gives you a card to use at the Foodland, but the prices there are way higher than the Safeway, about 1/8 mile further. If you have a Safeway, Vons or Pavillions club card, give the clerk your phone number (or card) and you will receive your club card discounts. Still, a couple of pounds of cold cuts, bread, vegetables, eggs, 6 pack of beer, 4 steaks, milk and soda cost over $200.

Location is perfect for getting to all the sights on Kauai. We took a boat tour to Napali from Hanalei and it only took 30 minutes to get there; Poipu was about the same. There are some good restaurants on the east side: The Eastside, Garden Island Barbeque and Kalapaki Beach Hut were the one's we went to.

Lydgate Beach Park is really nice. We enjoyed the easy snorkel and getting some morning sun at the beach. Great walking paths, too.

If you want a resort - this is not the place for you. If you want to feel like you're in your own little beach-front cottage with all the amenities of home then take a look. While not everything in our room was in perfect condition, nothing was dirty or broken, but some things were rusty and some paint was peeling on the trim. Kitchen was fully equipped - everything we needed. There was even a little library in our room - so nice to just choose a book! Even though there was no carpet, there were plenty of rugs about to make me feel more comfortable (I don't enjoy bare floors, especially when there is sand!). Service was friendly. Location very central to everything in Kauai - beautiful beach, probably not a good beach for swimming but Lydgate Beach is a walkable distance down the road with excellent swimming and fair snorkeling. I know that each unit is different so I will tell you that our unit was #102 - we were very happy with this unit. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to vacation in Kauai if they want a non-resort, home-like feel.

You might pass by this place without knowing it is there. It is right on the ocean near Wailua and the unit I had, #327 had the perfect Ocean View.....literally Ocean Front. It was a corner 3rd floor unit and opened up to the most incredible view and ocean breezes you could imagine. You could pay $400-$500 a night for a view like this in the Hyatt. The only noise you hear is the sound of waves breaking in the ocean. The bedroom is pretty small and the bed is not great quality, but I overlooked some of the negative things, because I was paying less than $200 a night, and knew it was a considerable deal. The kitchen is small, but well equipped for cooking just about any meal you want. The location is well situated on the East Coast, near Kapaa, so you are near restaurants and shopping. This is a place you come to relax....so bring a book, or read the many books in the unit....whatever you do you will not want to leave. My eyes drifted out the huge lanai overlooking the ocean on the morning I had to depart and a moment of sadness came over me...I wish I had more time. It could use some updating, but I expect once that takes place, it will go up substantially in price.

We were moved here after our initial reservation had been canceled due to the bankruptcy of Marc Resorts. If it wasn't for that we would have never found out about this place so we consider ourselves very lucky. We split our stay in Kauai between Castle Kaha Lani, the Grand Hyatt and the Mariott resort. A condo unit such as the Kaha Lani is a great place to plan your exploration of the island. The condos are centrally located on the east shore, close to Walmart, Costco, the Coconut Marketplace, Safeway etc, yet it's away from the hustle bustle of Lihue.

A big plus is the quarter mile walk down to Lydgate Park for families and those nervous about swimming/snorkeling in the ocean. The beach is sectioned off by rocks and safe for kids and adults alike. There is a decent sized tiled swimming pool on the premises with depth varying from 4 to 8 feet. There is also a BBQ grill available, but you have to reserve it through the front office.

The first thing that surprised us about our condo was how clean and well stocked it was. There was everything we could have every needed including a toaster, a big fridge, electric stoves, dishes (several), drinking glasses (several), pots and pans of any size, dishwasher, dishwashing detergent, knives, can opener, more knives etc, etc. You truly have everything you will ever need to cook. This will not only save your a lot of money (food on Kauai is not cheap) but will allow you to cook up your home favorites whenever you want.

While there is no air conditioning, every unit faces the ocean and the cool breeze at night negated the absence of any cooling system. In the entire week I think we had only one uncomfortable night (we stayed in late May), but turning on the ceiling fan remedied that. There are also beach towels available that can be exchanged at the front desk whenever needed. Parking is ample and free, and there are parking spots near every condo.

The Kaha Lani faces a beautiful and secluded beach, though swimming there is not recommended especially with Lydgate a 5 min walk up north. The sun rises every morning are gorgeous and with only 74 units the Kaha Lani gives you the peace and quiet most other resorts won't. However, since you need to keep the windows and Lanai doors open to experience the breeze sound might become an issue if you have noisy neighbors. The only minor problem we had during our stay was that the hotel recently changed their room service policy. I'm not sure what the situation is currently but at the time they serviced our rooms every 3 days, which was fine by us. The front desk was very helpful and offered us additional towels and bed sheets if we needed.

The television in our unit was small, but we only once turned it on. Also there is free wired high speed internet available, and unlike most hotels it's actually quite fast. This brings me to my final point that the Kaha Lani is a great value at $119/night. With no resort fee and free internet I would pick this place over the Marriot resort any day.

The location of the Kaha Lani condos is perfect. It sits along the ocean, and I'm sure that the view is incredible from some units. It's a short 5 minute walk to Lydgate Park, which is perfect for kids and beginning snorkelers. There's a protected beach area for toddlers and a larger area for snorkeling. There's also a picnic area and wonderful play structure. We spent a lot of our mornings here. The building is also right off of the main highway that leads to all the other parts of the island, and being on the east shore was a good middle point for us to start from.

I read the reviews prior to booking and it seemed like hit-or-miss with the individual units. We reserved an ocean view 2bd/2ba room. We checked in at night (there was a security guard who handed us our keys as the office was closed), so we weren't able to see our view until the next morning. While the view was gorgeous, I would consider it more of a partial ocean view. For a full ocean view, reserving an ocean front would probably be your best bet. The furniture/kitchen appliances/bathroom were dated. The curtains were old and dusty and the louvre shutters were drafty. No A/C, but that was fine for April. Bathroom amenities such as shampoo and soap, dish soap and dishwasher detergent are all provided. There's coin-op laundry on site as well. Very friendly office staff. Quiet (although the roosters will wake you up at 3am), well-kept grounds. Free high-speed "wired" (a 20 foot cable is provided) internet. Pool area looked nice, although we did not go in.

The Kaha Lani provided a comfortable place to sleep, shower and make breakfast. We'll probably stay there again...probably not in the same room though.
