“A little run down, but centrally located”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2010

My wife and I stayed here as a base to see the island, and for that purpose the location can't be beat. But as other reviewers have said, the place is a little run down. They have room air conditioners only in the bedrooms, many of which look dilapidated on the outside, which make the place look cheap. But fortunately we had an ocean view and good ventilation so we didn't need AC. The exterior is in need of refurbishing and a good paint job. For the interior, our unit, G18, had peeling paint in almost every room. It had wireless internet but no TV, which was a drag because we were there during the Super Bowl, so I had to go over to the hotel next door.

As others have said, there are chickens all over the place. They're annoying and in my opinion, really detract from the vacation experience. It should be an easy problem to solve.

Near the end of our stay we visited the Hyatt Regency in Poipu. Now that's a resort! We checked with the front desk and we got a good enough rate, so we checked in there for the last two nights, since we weren't particularly enjoying our stay at Kauai Beach Villas. My wife referred to it as "vacation triage." Beautiful grounds, impecable service, and the food prices were not as bad as we feared. And no chickens!

Just returned from a month at this resort and can truthfully say that it was entirely enjoyable. The 2 bedroom unit was quiet, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Office stafdf are polite and eager to satisfy any problem brought to their attention. Although we weren't assigned a beach or sea view unit, it was an easy 3 minute walk on resort grounds to an adjacent beach that stretched for miles. The resort is ideally situated 10 minutes from the airport and is between Lihue and Kapa'a for easy shopping and meals out when not eating in. The smallish pool was always clean and never crowded and the resort grounds were kept tidy at all times while we were there. Nothing to complain about and we'd go back and not hesitate in recommending the resort for a week or a month or however long for relaxation. The island is lush and beautiful but if you want night-time action, you shouldn't be going to Kauai.

We spent our Christmas 2009 and New Year in Kauai Beach Villas, also known as Wyndham. I fell in love with this Island. I am still so overwhelmed, I do not know, where to start. The nature of this island is amazing. We saw it from bird view, booked with Air Venture, flew over the entire island and it was worthy it. Money well spent. You would not see it just driving around. You need to rent a car, without one you not gonna go anywhere. Kauai Beach Villas are in Lihue, 5 minutes North from the airport, and it was a perfect location, going North to Princeville, takes you around one hour and beaches over there are breathtaking. Whether you go to Hanalei Beach, Tunnel Beach-with nice snorkeling , or Ke'e Beach, the last before Napali Coast, which you can go hiking, but this trail is for people with good health, it was kinda challenging, muddy, and rocky. It could take you anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depends how fare you go. But the view of the nature is amazing. You must see it to understand what I mean by that.
Beaches on South side oh the island are as well beautiful, Just to name couple, I don't remember all of them, Ship Wreck Beach, Poipu Beach has a nice snorkeling spot, saw more fish there than going to scuba dive, Which since I mentioned it, I was very disappointed with scuba. It was of shore dive, saw one turtle, but otherwise not much to see. Some rocks with algae, no corals, not much of ocean flora, not so many fish either. Much better scuba sites are anywhere in Caribbean, that was one down-side, but I was happy to overlook.
All beaches on Kauai are public, with monk seals coming out to rest and sleep for many hours, sometimes literally all day. That was really cool. Basically we liked the most either southern or northern beaches. they were wide, long, clean with crystal clear waters, blue and green, sometimes also big waves. Our least likable beaches were the ones on East coast, my friend named them "interesting", actually they were full of tiny or huge tree branches or tree roots, or anything else. I could not understand, why city or resort does not clean them? Only a few on eastern side were clean! But ... you could see an amazing sunrise every day!
With Blue Dolphin we booked early morning trip by catamaran to western Napali Coast , and OMG...what an incredible view of this part you going to experience! Whether you choose afternoon sunset dinner with lets say Captain Andy or morning you not gonna regret. Go for it!
All excursions you can book through concierge service at the reception, say Hello to Josi, she was extremely helpful. Upon check in, or breakfast presentation they will give you list of many activities that might interest you and with their discount it is cheaper.
Although we have time share already, we went for Bali Hi- Princeville presentation, and earned $200 discount for activities. If they tell you it is not a time-share sell, do not believe them, IT IS! But they were not pushy. We told them we own one and do not want to buy another one, they understood and we still got a discount.
Once there you must experience lu'au dinner, we booked in Hayett, it rained therefore it was inside, but very nice show and delicious meal. This island is called Garden Island and it is for a very good reason, right on a button. The nature is beyond any words, any expression... you need to be a poet to describe it!
The resort by itself, ...it is a typical time-share location, no evening shows, no restaurant, the size of the pool was not impressive either, actually it was very small and had no charm at all, but who needs pool, if there are so many and so gorgeous beaches! We had 2BR unit on second floor, viewing pond with a little zoo of birds, we even saw two black swans, they were incredible. The unit was spacious with well equipped kitchen appliances, dishes and grills all over to prepare food.
And yes, there are roosters all over the island, they are absolutely everywhere! We kept our a/c unit in bedroom on all the times, it was slightly loud, but gave us an excellent buffer against them, and we slept soundly through the night. Otherwise take some ear plugs, you will need them, if you want to get sleep all night long.
This was our first trip to Hawaii, but definitely not the last one, although we want explore also another islands.

I recently stayed in unit G-23 at the Kauai Beach Villas in Lihue. I picked this property mainly because I wanted to be centrally located on the island. It was a convenient location but not at all scenic - only about 2 miles from the airport. Traffic to and from the property on the Kuhio highway was epic. It didn't matter what time we left or returned we sat in traffic constantly! Never seemed to benefit from the contra-flow system - it was like it purposely worked against us!! We rented the unit thru Kauai Vacation Rentals as this is a privately owned condo - I think some of the other units can be book directly. G-23 has a partial oceanview from the lanai only. Air conditioning only in the bedroom and it's located right next to the bed. It was loud and blew directly at the bed so one person is bound to freeze! Because of the location of this unit (actually on the parking lot side of the building) it didn't quite catch any cooling oceanbreezes so the living area was stuffy even with all the windows open. It was also kind of run down and dated but it was fully equipped with linens including beach towels. Full kitchen w/ plently of dishes, blender, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, iron, blowdryer in the bathroom. Nice big TV in the living room and smaller one in the bedroom. Cable and DVD player (although could have benefitted by having operating instructions). Lots of corrosion on anything metal and the slider didn't lock and felt like it was ready to fall off it's track. The toilet ceased to function about 12 hours after we arrived but the rental agency had it fixed by days end (fortunately we didn't have to wait around for the repairman). The community BBQ grills were tricky to light and because they were right below our unit you could hear people out there pushing the starter button a million times and getting totally frustrated. The pool is quite small but clean. A Hilton is right next door (actually confusing which buildings belonged to which property) and has a much nicer pool which we were welcome to use for $15 a day (yeah right!). All in all it's a convenient location for $150 a night but I doubt I would stay there again

We've traveled to several 2 bedroom resorts around the U.S. and so really aren't surprised by much anymore. My wife's sister and brother-in-law came with us and we had plenty of room in this unit- D15. I asked for an ocean view but the receptionist said that only owners get those. She also said that there are only 14 units that have an ocean view. So, we had a lagoon view which was fine since we really didn't hang out in the room a lot. The beach was about a 5 minute walk from our unit. It is not a swimming beach but okay for walking on and playing in the sand if you have kids. The last few days, there were quite a number of jelly fish on the beach. If you walk all the way to the south end of the beach, there are some interesting tide pools where you will see sea slugs moving around, small reef fish and many crabs scurrying on the lava rock.

In the unit: all of the utensils and appliances you'll need. Microwave and coffee maker. Small but adequate A.C. units in the bedrooms plus ceiling fans. A large ceiling fan is all that someone on the pullout couch would have at night. 3 flat screen TV's with cable. DVD/VHS combo player in the main room. Alarm clocks in the bedrooms. One BR has an attached bath and the other BR has a bath outside its door that would be shared by those in the main living area. Cleaning is on Wednesday and basically consisted of making the beds, taking out the trash, and changing the towels.

The resort: 2 tennis courts with equipment available, cold swimming pool, warm hot tub. Front desk has a few toiletries and sells stamps for your postcards. The Hilton is right next door but we never went there. If you have kids, it might be worthwhile to invest in a pass for their pool as it has a slide and generally looked better than ours.

The island: It isn't so big that you can't get to most places you'd like to go in the week you have here. This resort is about halfway between the North and West shores. We had good experiences at Polihale S.P., Tunnels Beach, and the Wailua kayaking trip to Secret Falls. Our family enjoyed a catamaran trip to the Napali Coast and the Hidden Island. I'd recommend the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook as required reading before and during your trip here. Its reviews and recommendations were right on for us.

The season: We came in the winter because things were a bit cheaper and it is nice to escape the midwest in late November. But this is not the best time to be in Hawaii. Our first 3-4 days were rainy and we were wondering if we'd regret the whole thing. But the last several days offered mostly sunny skies and we got a glimpse of why so many people come back to Hawaii again and again. If you are here and it is rainy, the best thing to do is head to the southwest part of the island where it will most likely be sunny.

There is much more we could say (and may add later) about the trip but overall, the Kauai Beach Villas is a decent place to stay at a midpoint on the road around the island. If you can get an ocean view somewhere, it would probably be worth the upgrade. We did not go to the timeshare spiel and they didn't hound us about it. The offer was $125 in a VISA card plus $50 dining certificate. Maybe if they'd offer a room upgrade, we'd have considered it.

This was our first trip to Kauai, and we spent a week at the Wyndham Kauai Beach Villa resort from Sept. 19th to the 26th through an RCI exchange. Given some of the negative comments on TA, we had some misgivings about staying here, but we were pleasantly surprised, and the resort exceeded our expectations. We were assigned a comfortable one bedroom unit (C17, third floor), nicely renovated bathroom and kitchen with updated appliances, washer/dryer, hairdryer, etc. (a huge plus!). We had a pleasant view from our balcony – lovely shrubs and plants in front, with a view of some of the low mountains in the background.

Staff were most efficient, friendly and helpful, and the welcome presentation very informative.

The resort is in an excellent location, approx. midpoint between north and south, and easy access to shops, restaurants, activities and sightseeing. The grounds are lovely and well maintained, tranquil and peaceful. The beach is ideal for walking or simply relaxing with a good book.

The pool is small but adequate and nice to come back to for a quick refreshing cool down after a day of sightseeing and activity.

Don’t let the dirt bike track bother you – we hardly ever heard the noise. Besides, you will be out and about all day.

Yes, the roosters will give you a “wake up call” at 3:30 am, but they, the hens and chicks, are part of the island charm!

The only downside, some of the air conditioners are rusted and quite an eye sore.

Kauai is a beautiful island and there is still so much more for us to see and explore, and without hesitation, we would come back to stay at the Kauai Beach Villas.

We were lucky enough to have a first floor, beach front condo. Everything was very clean and contained everything to make it feel like home. We very much enjoyed the grills just outside the pool area - the kids could swim while we cooked and just enjoyed being on such a beautiful island.

The staff was very helpful and supplied very detailed information about local grocery stores, attractions and activities. We can not wait to go back!
