Owner description: Exploring KAUAI BY KAYAK since 1977 For years, Island Adventures has introduced visitors and Kama'ainas (residents), to the magic of the Hule'ia River and it's 241 acres of National Wildlife Refuge. More recently, the owners of this small company set out to improve on what was already known to our visitor industry professionals as one of the very best kayak trips on Kauai. "We set out in search of an elusive waterfall that existed only in the memories of a handful of long time Kauai locals. Because of the thick jungle growth, an aerial survey of the area was fruitless. This search for a secret waterfall was to send us on a mission, through thick tangled jungle with no cut trails. After several difficult trips into the valley we were rewarded with the sound of rushing waters. Still, dense vegetation made it impossible to get a close look. We could hear it but couldn't see it" It took two more attempts for the Island Adventures crew of explorers to make their most exciting discovery. After rappelling down a cliff to the river below, the found not one, but two treasures: Jungle Waterfalls, the tallest one was over 50' high. A whole year and a half later, a trail had been mapped and cut. Now you don't havce to be Tarzan to enjoy this very special place, which has become the main destination of Island Adventures latest tours. "This Ain't No Zipline" and "Hawaiian Dundee".

This was BY FAR one of the BEST experiences my wife and I had on our honeymoon. Lisa, our guide, was SO amazing and sweet! She was full of island facts and told us a lot of interesting stories about the history of Hawaiian/Kauaian people. The trip started with a very peaceful kayak trip up the river. About an hour and a half into it we got out an hiked down to a freshwater waterfall which we got to swim in. They even fed us after this amazing four hour tour of this beautiful island. If you don't so anything else on your trip here in Kauai...BOOK. THIS. It was easy for us young newlyweds and seemed easy enough for the two couples we were on our tour with, who were celebrating their 43rd and 45th wedding anniversaries.

“Great Fun!”
Reviewed March 24, 2011

This was one of the best kayaking/hiking trips we've ever taken. IA has an agreement with private land owners so there were very few people on the river and none on the trail or at the waterfall swimming hole on this "Jungle" trip. Non was a great guide and lunch was provided by a great deli.

“We had a blast with 'Nan'”
Reviewed November 24, 2010

We recently were in Kauai for 6 days and had a wonderful time on our Kayak tour! We lucked out and went on an afternoon where there were only two other couples, it was the most relaxing afternoon, surrounded by beautiful scenery. The rowing was not enough to work up a sweat, half the time we floated down the river while our guide 'Nan' explained the various things we were seeing. Because of the small group we had, we even had a chance to stop the rowing for a 'dip' in the river. Once we parked our kayaks we were taken on a short jungly tour where we had a chance to enjoy scenery, local fruit, and a refreshing swim in a waterfall!! We would recomment the "Discover Jungle Falls" tour to anybody heading to Kauai!!!

“Great fun!”
Reviewed June 24, 2010

We booked this tour off of NCL on June 17, 2010. Right from the begining it was fun. We were the oldest couple in the group, but had no difficulty in keeping up at anytime. The kayaking was fun, the hike to the waterfalls was great, as well as the time we took to swim in the falls. Our guides were very knowledgeable and personable. This was one of the better excursions we went on ...well worth the money.
Excellent lunch after swimming in the falls!

“Really, really great activity”
Reviewed May 6, 2010

The kayak and short hike trip was really special. My wife has never been in a kayak yet she felt so comfortable on the river with island adventure and in there equipment. Nick our tour guide was especially neat. It was very clear that he loves what he does, which in turn I felt helped our group love the surroundings even more. The hike to the waterfalls was short, yet a bit steep in some places. Stairs and railings are there to assist those that need help. Nick was able to stop on the river and trail and point out specific plants and answer questions about them. He loves this land and is never tired of sharing its splendor. As everyone else has suggested the sandwiches were delicious and the 4 hours flew by. By no means is this trip challenging as in an adventure race, so beginners, young and old will all have a blast here.
