The tour was a great learning experience about the plantation, its history and the way it is being used now, our tour guide did his job well, I recommend it a must do for anyone interested in this place.

Fun to ride on the train through the Wilcox property. Relaxing and informative. Stopped to feed some cute farm animals.

We went to the Kilohana Plantation Estate because of the bad weather and many other things were closed. We thought the children might enjoy the train ride and we would get to see an historic house....
The train ride is a tourist trap! It cost our family over $100 WITH the 15% disount coupon. Nice old train but the tour guide, although polite, was just earning a living. My children were sitting at the very front of the train right near him and there was no interaction with them at all. He just did his 'spiel' which included some interesting facts about the origins of the estate and the plants & trees that grow there, and the varying animals onsite.
There were several 'selling' opportunities where the guide mentioned about the luau, the restaurant, the gift shop, and the 4 hour train tour they offer.
Then there was an opportunity to get off the train and feed the goats, sheep, pigs & wild chickens. The children loved this, however there was no opportunity for anyone to wash their hands or use antiseptic after feeding the animals - would be good if there was a tap or antiseptic provided at the animal site. We stopped here for probably about 10 minutes. Beautiful views along the way but not much opportunity to snap while the train is moving.
Then a few more minute along the track and we were back where we started. AND the guide asked for tips......what? The price we paid for what we got wasn't enough?
Then we thought we would explore the old house which has been crammed full of retail stores.....we were so disappointed as the charm of the old house is lost amongst the retail. There were old pictures on the walls and old furniture but it was really difficult to appreciate amongst the glittering modern retail.
Will I go back again? Probably not.....the train rides should defiately be cheaper - at least half the price, then it would be more attractive.....
