“Very local place; great food”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

Truly, a fun local place for breakfast. I got the pancakes with macadamia nuts and pineapple added. Excellent. My hubby had the pancakes and added on the eggs and spam. It was such a generous portion he ended up eating a very late lunch! Good table side service. The coffee cups were never empty. Enjoyable local spot and good food.

“Great breakfast with the locals”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

I knew it would be good - not many tourists and lots of locals. Macadamia nut pancakes were great and not too heavy. It's not fancy, and they really move the folks in and out, but it was a great meal for a decent price.

“just average - despite the hype”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

The Tip Top did a good job with breakfast but nothing spectacular.
This is a restaurant with a very LOCAL clientele. The collection of huge vehicles -- so typical of the local folks -- made parking a small challenge. The noise in the large restaurant reflected the size of the crowd. Yet, the service was excellent, prompt and efficient.
The pancake with Macadamia nuts was well done as requested -- but a magnifying glass would have been useful for finding the nut chips. Sort of a ripoff for the extra $1,00 charge.
The veggie omelette was nicely done with the embedded vegetables crisp and tasty. The whole wheat toast was very good.
Bottom line, OK place to eat but nothing special.

“Great Value for Breakfast”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

"Tip Top" was the enthusiastic response from 3 different locals when we asked where to go for Sunday Breakfast/Brunch. We like to try local favorites and were reassured of a good choice since 90% of the patrons appeared to be locals.

We ordered the Loco Moco (Hawaiian dish which is a hamburger patty with brown gravy over rice with two eggs on top) and the chicken fried steak with two eggs and hash browns. Everything seemed to be made fresh, except for the hash browns which were originally frozen but still decent. Both dishes were good.

Service was very fast and polite. Part of the reason they get the food out so quickly is that a number of dishes use the same ingredients. For example both the Loco Moco and the chicken fried steak use the same brown gravy. Food is loaded up on carts for multiple guests who are sitting on the same aisle, and distributed. The booths in the middle of the restaurant are "shared", so you may make new friends.

Tip Top is located near the airport in case you need a quick breakfast or lunch before departing. Even though there were about a dozen tables worth of people in line ahead of us, we were seated in about 10 minutes. They are very efficient.

Short of going to a fast food place, getting breakfast for two on Kauai for $20 is a challenge, so we consider this a win.

“the best pancakes in the world”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

the secret recipe kept in this family is incredible. the best pancakes ever. i send everyone here and my kids come to visit just to eat them ( maybe to see me too). they buy extra to eat during the week every day when we can not get there. they like the mac nut pancakes and i have to admit they are totally gossamer and like no other pancake on earth. it just does not get better. a must go-to breakfast experience. the place is simple and very diner-like but homey. it is like stepping into an old fashioned diner. service is expeditious and efficient. JUST DO NOT MISS IT!!!!
