“Best Italian restaurant outsude of Italy”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

Mt wife and I visit Italy regularly and were extremely surprised at the quality of the food. I had the seafood starter with pizzaiola sauce followed by veal . Tremendous!. It is not cheap but I thoroughly recommend it. The view from upstairs is nice

“Nice location”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

The Cafe Portofino location has a reasonably nice setting over the water next to Dukes. The parking is not very good. Though I think Dukes and Portofino are owned by the same people, you can't use the vale at Dukes for Portofino's, even though the two restaurants are connected. You have to park by the water in a very crowed muddy parking area with giant pot holes. Take an umbrella, because it rains a lot there.
Our waitress was rude. The waiter at the next table was great. We watched him go through the specials, very friendly, etc, Our waiter came up and simply asked, "what do you want to drink". When she came back, she asked what we wanted. When I asked about one of the specials, she said, "Well, as I explained earlier". I immediately stopped her, and reminded her she didn't explain anything. She seemed like an unpleasant and unhappy person doing something they didn't want to do. Not the best Valentine's dinner, but the rest of the day was great.
Anyway, for $138 dinner that included two glasses of wine, no salads, appetizer of claims, a fish meal and chicken meal, and one dessert that we split, that didn't seem to out of line for Hawaii.
Overall, if you have a different waiter than we had, you probably would like it.

“Don't waste your time or money”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

We ordered a Caesar salad to start and it had a living bug in it. Not to mention that the salad looked old and had the "bottom of the bag" appearance. Nobody bothered to apologize to us or really acted like that was a rare thing. I could have gotten a fresher better tasting salad at a fast food restaurant for way less. That should have been a red flag for us but decided we would cancel the salad and try the entree already ordered. The waiter and I had a talk about what vegetables came in the vegetarian lasagna only to have him present us with meat lasagna. We are vegetarian. Our waiter did not take away the lasagna and replace with what we ordered, he stood there and went back and forth with us. At this point, it seemed like we weren't going to get the service or the food we were looking for and left. This restaurant is not part of the Marriott and is just on the property. Don't waste your time or money going here. It is awful.

“Food was ok, outdated decor”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

The restaurant appears very outdated. We ordered a meat and cheese platter which was ok, nothing great. We also had pasta which was good but not great. We sat on the patio but next to the wall by the creek and had multiple mosquito bites after our meal.

“Good food”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

Had dinner at this restaurant and found the staff very friendly and helpful.
We ordered the Veal Marsala and really enjoyed it except the portions where very small.
Prices are a bit high for the amount of food you get.
However, we would go back there simply because the alternatives for Italian food in Lihue are not the great.
