To start with, I had to request new fork and knife because they were dirty. Bathrooms were very neglected, too.
The escargots I ordered was not very good, and I don't think our foreign waitress understood that as she responded with a giggle, which was her response to pretty much everything. Also she completely missed my husband's order of a side lobster tail. The food was average at best, and quite overpriced.

We chose Cafe Portofino primarily because we were staying at the Marriot Kauai Beach Club and could walk to dinner. The restaurant far exceeded our expectation. The lovely dining room overlooks the ocean -- a breathtaking view. A very accomplished harpist supplied background music, helping to create a most romantic setting. Service from an engaging, young waiter was prompt and efficient.

The food was wonderful! We started our meal with a traditional Caesar Salad - the dressing was homemade - tangy and delicious. I ordered opakapaka (fresh fish of the day,) served piccata style, with a lemon cream sauce and capers. My entree was accompanied by a fresh vegetable medley (carrots, green beans and onions,) cooked al dente and very delicious, along with a helping of augratin potatoes. These also were freshly prepared with just the right amount of cheese (not thick and goopey as in some restaurants.) My husband ordered shrimp scampi, served in a tasty tomato sauce with same accompanying vegetables. We also ordered a side of spinach prepared with prosciutto and parmesan cheese - very tasty! Although we rarely order dessert, we followed up our meal with an Italian sorbet trio - which tasted freshly made and tangy.
All and all, the meal could not have been better.

Harp music is too irritating; music in general too loud and too annoying. Wait staff only looked at one member of the party and rarely addressed the other person when stating specials. Food was average. Shrimp dish was fine; Dover sole was barely okay. Bread was slightly undercooked. Couldn't wait to get out of the restaurant. We will not go back to this restaurant.

Very nice resturant upstairs with a view of Kalapaki Bay. Food was very good although a little pricey for what it was. Fettuccine alfredo was $22, a little spendy but very good
