Having to walk to our dinning spot we had limited choices outside the hotel so we flipped a coin Dukes or Portifino. Portifinio won. We walked passed Dukes which was packed with people waiting outside the door. We walked into Portifino to find 25-30 people, in other word's, empty. The inside dinning room had no dinners at all.

We were pleased to see thet had a great veiw for those who want to dine outside and so we did with the other 25-30 people. The drinks were a good pour the appetizer was very good but thats were it stopped. The entres were terrible. The medium rare filet I ordered was beyond well done and the veal reaked of being cooked in old cooking oil. We let our server know our dismay and she was apologetic.

I simply asked for the check. To their credit they took $14.00 off my $140.00 bill. Still hungry we walked next door to Dukes and had the tasty island fare we should have had to begin with.

Would never go there again. I think people who go there just dont want to wait to get into Dukes. Go for drink and the veiw from the deck.

We have eaten at Portofino several times over the last three years. Each time it seems the restaurant has gone down hill. The earlier times we had stayed at the Marriott so it was easy to get to the Portofino. This time we stayed elsewhere but wanted to have dinner at the Portofino. We had to use the main hotel valet parking and walk all the way across the property to the restaurant. Although the parking was free, I do not understand why Duke's next door to the Portofino and also part of the Marriott can offer valet parking from Rice Street but the Portofino cannot do the same. For the food, it is expensive for what you get. The portions are on the smaller side. If you order a pasta dish, a salad or soup does not come with it. The menu states that if you want more than two servings of bread it will cost extra. The service is average. The waitress offered to refill our soft drinks but failed to mention that we were charged for a new glass of soda for each refill. The glasses are small and mostly ice so a refill is a foregone conclusion. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous and the harp music is fantastic. Too bad the food did not measure up to the ambiance. Overall, if you want good Italian food at a good price, eat at Pomodoro's in Kaleheo.

Like other reviewers have said, the location is great. Other than that, there are few redeeming qualities. The good- view, harp music, chocolate mousse (spelled 'mouse' on the menu). The bad- the lasagna was so hot it had to have been microwaved. It was also so soggy that it must have been a frozen, store bought brand. The bread also tasted like it had been frozen and thawed out for service. The restaurant is so slow, literally 3/4 or more of the tables were open and Duke's next door was standing room only. The Portofino ambiance is of the likes of a retirement home. The white table cloths do little to spruce up the slow, boring vibe of this place. Portofino just seems out of line with all that you see and do on the island. Don't waste your time at this one.

We have never had a bad meal here in 20 years. We like the outdoor seating, the harpist and the food.

For the price of the food, this place is definitely not worth it. The service and view was great, but the food was sub par. When we received our meal within 5 minutes, we were instantly skeptical. The lasagna looked like slop and tasted like freezer brand Stoffers. For $20 I could have bought two whole pans of this. The penne sausage was about as good as i could of made it. When I go out to eat at a "fine dining" restaurant, I expect to eat food better than what I could make at home. There are not very many italian restaurants on Kauai, but avoid this one.
