Why would you come here? You come for the kitsch factor. You go out of curiosity. You go for a good bowl of saimin for cheap. You go with an open mind and you might actually enjoy the experience as much as we did.

You find an open seat. You sit down. You wait for the little grandma to SLOWLY shuffle over to take your order and then deliver everything to you just as slowly, one item at a time. That experience was priceless on its own.

Plenty of locals eating here, which is always a good sign.

Saimin had the right chewy elasticity that you want in your noodles.

Won tons are what all the other reviews say, meat filled and tasteless.

Lilikoi chiffon pie filling is light, fluffy and delicious, but you could possibly break the plate with your fork trying to cut into the crust.

Cash only.

Great stop to and from the airport.

They don't care what people think because if they did, they would have fixed this place up and they haven't. So, just go.

Famous for its Saimin selections, Hamura's Saimin Stand is (1) not easy to find, (2) serves tasty, inexpensive Saimin, (3) has "service" at turtle speed, but (3) makes/sells THE BEST Lilikoi chiffon pie on any of the 4 major islands of Hawaii. We took one back to our timeshare and devoured it! They take cash only, but their prices won't clean out your wallet (the pie was only $16.50)!

This place is good if you are not expecting fine dining. Its a local place for saimin type of food. Which is a noodle with meat or fish soup. The food is very tasty and the prices are good. Overall I would come back again and try other stuff.

There is nothing special about this place. Maybe 20 years it was cool to eat with the locals, those days have passed. The saimin is barely OK and the famous lilikoi chiffon pie is not even "Mrs Smith" quality. I'm sorry, but that's MHO.

Hamura Saimin Stand is an cultural icon in Kauai. It is in every tourist guide book for good food and is listed as #14 on Tripadvisor. There are not that many restaurant choices in Kauai and most are catered to tourists. This local favorite serves saimin or better known as ramen to mainlanders, a Chinese noodle adopted by the Japanese. The food here is fair for Kauai, based on it own merits. When the food is compared to its authentic equivalent, then Hamura is poor. The food is a throw back to the 60’s when Asian food was Americanized with wonton skin is as thick as a tangerine skin with loose chopped meat as opposed to ground meat. The factory made saimin itself is OK but the broth is a flavorless soy based broth that is heavily salted not the meaty flavored broth in a good ramen shop. The BBQ meats were over cooked thus rendering them tough, dry and flavorless. Yes do visit the landmark and enjoy the food for what it is. What you don’t expect you won’t be disappointed.
