“Good food but not very friendly staff”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We had good reviews from friends so we decided to try it out. It is a small bar type seating restaurant. The staff were not friendly (and I am from Hawaii) which is a nice way of saying 'rude' to people. My mother asked for another menu item so that she could try it out as well and the waitress replied 'why? you got what you ordered'. My mother was so flustered, I had to intercept with " she wants to try more than 1 menu item'. It was good but not enough to try to take my mother there (who is 73 and deserves a little more respect from a younger woman).

“No More Tourists!!!”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Locals only, too many tourists. Just kidding but not like the old days. More tourists here than locals. Order the saimin, some beef or chix sticks, and GO! Always good, hot, and fast.

“A local favorite, fun experience”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We received a good recommendation to come here. It was good and satisfying, but doesn't compare to eating at the Tokyo fish market, or a good Pho restaurant back home. So while it was fun to experience sitting at the counter and checking out the local and tourist who come here and are willing to stand and wait for a stop, I would not likely return when there are so many other choices to try.

“Old Saimin Stand. Still There and Hasn't Changed”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Haven't been back to Kauai for 30 years. When I lived there, this was the place to go after hitting the bars. Before going home, we had a bowl of saimin to take the edge off of a night of imbibing.
Hamura's hasn't changed a bit. I don't think they have painted it at all since then which gives it it's "local charm"..
This is a sit down at a counter and be served cafe. Mostly locals eat here. The saimin is still outstanding, very reasonable and fills you up. They only serve saimin but do have skewered barbequed beef and chicken which is delicious.
If you haven't ever had saimin, it is like ramen noodles with a Hawaiian flair. If you are in Kauai, this is a definite lunch stop.

“Local gem - get you there!”
Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

One of my favorites so far! The small size saimin is plenty, and will let you save room for the pie! The special saimin is a real treat and not to be missed. Lots of locals here, but also friendly tourists sharing tips about places to go! I did this trip solo so it was a great place to network with fellow Traveller's for ideas for the rest of my trip! Atmosphere I marked Excellent because it's the real deal, but is just a bunch of stools at a long counter. Totally awesome!!!
