Hidden in a hole-in-the-wall on a side street off of Rice Street, Hamura Saimin is quirky, but wonderfully so. No reservations. Not even any tables. Diners sit at a long, curved diner-like counter, and order from the menu that features saimin, and little else. But, oh my goodness, is it delicious! Saimin noodles in shrimp broth, with various morsels [depending on your menu choice] swimming in the bowl. I'd recommend the regular size bowl of the regular saimin, which should allow you to have room for a slice of llikoi chiffon pie.
The locals love the place, so, at lunch hour, you will likely have to wait to get a seat. WAIT! You'll never forget it.
Be advised, though, the place accepts no credit cards. It's a cash only business, But two people can have a delicious, delightful lunch experience, including a drink and dessert, for less than $25. Total.

Let me say this first: We never grew up eating this kind of food in our regular diets. So I am no expert here and therefore we see it as just noodles in a darn good broth. The food is so simple with good flavors. Get the special, get the chicken kabobs and like others have said "Dont miss out on the PIE !!!!" I think half the experience is the atmosphere and all the other people around you. This is NOT "Trumps house o'noodles" (If there ever was such a place), but it's not a hole in the wall either. Dont pass up the experience. Wait your turn at the door, grab a seat when you can, strike up a conversation with some of the locals, and JUST ENJOY. We also agree with Matt A in that it is kind of like taking in a "Diner" experience from out of the past.

this is where you will find the locals waiting for a spot at the counter for their bowl of saimin.
it's also the best place to strike up a conversation with some one who knows the ins and outs of the island.
Aside from being the best saimin on the island, get the special.

This is absolutely nothing fancy, but the atmosphere and food are great and absolutely inexpensive. Try the special and enjoy it. Don't miss the pie. It's absolutely a must!

when you walk into the restaurant, you know you're going to a place w/great food b/c it seems like only locals know about it. i ordered the special which included delicious handmade ramen noodles w/cabbage, ham, pork, egg, fishcakes and wonton in it. i had to watch the locals eat so i knew what to do w/the horseradish and soy sauce. apparently ppl mixed it together and poured it into their ramen to make it more flavorful. a definite place to try if you like ramen! also, the teriyaki chicken on a stick was good too!
