Description: On the sand at Kalapaki Beach, Duke’s is dedicated to legendary surfer Duke Kahanamoku, Hawaii’s Ambassador of Aloha. The restaurant’s open-air design offers stunning, sweeping ocean views while the 30 foot waterfall plunges into a koi pond below that meanders through the tables. Enjoy a leisurely lunch, romantic dinner, or tropical cocktail in a fun, friendly atmosphere.

This restaurant had the fanciest Hawaiian drinks on the island. Those alone are worth the trip, with the hula pie a close second. The food here is really good and the portions are healthy. We ate there twice and enjoyed it both times; unfortunately, the salad bar is closed until dinner. This is an expensive restaurant even by kaui standards, and there is a wait to get your food. But the location is on a lovely beach and the coi pond is impressive. The atmosphere gives you a good tropical feeling. There are lots of friendly doves there that will eat your crumbs. They were a great asset to the enjoyment of my dining experience.

“Great fish in Beautiful Setting”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We had dinner just before sunset, with a beautiful view over the water. I loved the Mahi-Mahi, Duke's Style and my wife really liked her fish dish too. Excellent service. We had a coupon (from the Marriott) for a free Hula Pie dessert, which was a very pleasant surprise. Although it was expensive, it was worth it.

“Wonderful anniversary dinner!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

We agonized for days over the best restaurant for our anniversary dinner and our last night on Kauai. Cancelled the Tidepools after deciding on Duke's and were so glad we did. The hotel is amazing with its lush garden inner court and koi pools plus waterfalls. We arrived in time for Aloha Hour at the bar downstairs which is right on the water and complete with its own waterfall and koi pools- beautiful. Many people chose to eat right there and don't blame them. The lava flow drinks were amazing and I had 2 before the night was over- so good! We sat right by the water on the lanai in the upstairs restaurant and had an amazing waiter who enlightened us on fish choices. The opakapaka with macadamia nuts was our choice and just amazingly light and delicious but the rice was nothing special. The salad bar had numerous items but nothing stood out, although it was filling and included with the meal. Our special day meant free hula pie and wow, it was huge (see picture)! Dukes has a wonderful elegant atmosphere and we were glad we chose to spend our anniversary there instead of a more expensive restaurant.

“The very best!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Yes Duke's is expensive, but worth it! The view of the bay, the ocean waves and surfers definitely added to the experience. We had calamari for an appetizer. DH had mahi mahi and I had opah for our entree. You can order your fresh fish served in any of the 5 ways it is offered. Along with an entree comes the salad bar which has a large selection. We also made room to split a piece of hula pie! We left full and happy after a stroll on the beautifully kept grounds.
