On every vacation, I like to take in some cultural event or museum. We were on holiday on the Island of Kauai for 2 full weeks, so I thought it would be good for my 19 y.o. and 13 y.o. to do something other than water sports for an afternoon. I saw the museum had really good reviews on tripadvisor so decided to give it a shot.
My husband and I both felt it is a little over rated and perhaps the previous comments embellish a little bit. The women working at the museum were very friendly when we walked in and seemed genuinely happy that we were there. However, the displays and interior are in desperate need of updating. This is likely not possible due to the state of our economy and supposed lack of funding.
The building itself seems very old, and some areas smell rather musty. Not only could this be harmful to the artifacts that reside within, it can be a trigger for folks suffering from allergies or asthma, which a few in our family have issues with. If you are sensitive to molds or mildew and you have asthma, I would highly recommend bringing your inhaler if you visit.
The one thing I did enjoy was some of the genealogy/family history/old photos located in various areas throughout the museum.
Although I am rating the museum as overall average/3 stars, I would give the women that were working that day a 5 star for their enthusiasm and passion for the heritage the museum is trying to preserve.
