What a fun way to combine a little island history with tasty sampling and buy some fun gifts to remember your Kauai trip! The rum is tasty (and who knew three ingredients-sugar, water and yeast-can have such results)! You don't need a lot of time for this-maybe an hour-so it makes a nice stop coming and going from Poipu or Waimea areas.

On an earlier visit to Kauai we attended a luau at the plantation, so went back to check out the jewelry store. We learned the plantation is also now the home of Koloa Rum company. I'm not a big rum drinker so went to the tasting with low expectations. All I can say is WOW--I really enjoyed the tasting. Our bartender/host gave us a little history, and seemed to be having a good time. We bought a bottle of spiced rum to take home, and later bought a bottle of dark rum at K-Mart (surprise!) for $4 less! We have friends who will be visiting the island soon, and we hope to steer them here.

Heard about this place in one of the many info kiosks at most places on the island. Great looking area and building that has the gift shop, tasting area and a very cool replica of the pot type still used in the rum making process. Tastings included four different rums, a Mai Tai and rum cake. All were very good, but I thought a tad pricey, especially since most local grocery or liquor were a few bucks cheaper. A nice way to spend an afternoon.

The gift shop is well stocked, the tasting tour lots of fun! Our "guide" was witty and full of rum knowlege. This is a must see stop for any rum lovers. This is exceptional rum.

The Koloa Rum Company was a very nice stop for us. We sampled all the the different rums, brought home a bottle of dark and really enjoyed the Spiced. Staff was very nice, friendly as you would hope for on a vacation....
