“Nice facility”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

We live in Honolulu and we are trying to hit all the islands before we leave Hawaii. This was our first interisland trip, and Kauai is gorgeous. We booked this resort off Travelocity and got a good rate. We were surprised about the "add on" charges however, and maybe we are out of touch, but having to pay for parking and internet was really surprising (about thirty some dollars a day for both). The rooms and facilities were clean, but a bit dated, but nothing that really turned us off. I got exactly what I expected for ocean beach access, views only, because I did my research.
One thing I noted from other reviewers, that "blank stare" and "rude" and "poor customer service" that people perceive...... It is a perception of a mainlander. We are mainlanders whom have only lived here less than a year, and that is just how some Hawaiians are, they are very kind, but you need to engage them and then they are very friendly. If you come in knowing this, you will most likely not think anyone is being rude or giving you a blank stare.
On the beds, they are satisfactory at best. At our home we have a hotelier grade mattress and the beds at this resort are not of this quality, satisfactory but not super high quality. Really to be expected for a resort on a budget.
The buffet breakfast was delicious and well worth the money.

Room Tip: our "garden view room" had nice views of the ocean, don't waste your money on the &quo...

We booked on Priceline and made an error in our dates. Priceline would not fix but when I called the hotel they bent over backwards to change our reservation with no added fees. The hotel is spotless and pools gorgeous. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Only downside, no wifi in the rooms and daily parking charge but that's found at every hotel in kauai. Will stay here again and so grateful for the fact they went the extra mile for us!

We chose the Kauai Beach resort for our recent 30th anniversary trip. I wanted to stay someplace more "ritzy" but my husband convinced me to give KBR a try. I am so glad he did. I was a bit hesitant because of some reviews I read here, but all my anxiety was for nothing. The resort is beautiful! In my opinion, the pictures on their website don't do it justice. We had an oceanfront room with an unobstructed view of the ocean. Our room had none of the "musty" smell mentioned in a couple of other reviews. It was a good size, and the bed was comfortable. The next thing people seem to mention in reviews is the beach. I think you have to do some research before a trip like this. I personally loved the beach. We took walks along the beach early every morning and watched the sun rise. It wasn't dirty, unless by dirty you mean the normal flotsam and jetsam that wash up on a beach. It is rocky in places but Hawaii is a volcanic island chain and that's to be expected. True, it's not a white sand beach with cabanas, but we came here for the true beauty of Kauai, and it's evident everywhere you look. The food was good to very good. Yes, the restaurant is pricey, but again, it's a hotel restaurant at a beach resort, so the prices were not unexpected. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. They seemed genuinely glad to have us. The pools are lovely and were not crowded. The Driftwood Bar & Grill took orders and served food and drink poolside. I will definitely plan to stay here when we are lucky enough to visit Hawaii again. It was a dream vacation!

Room Tip: Watch the website for deals - we got an ocean front room by calling the hotel and speaking with them...

This is a beautiful property. We loved everything about it - it was clean, beautifully appointed and landscaped, the food was great (loved the breakfast buffet - food and atmosphere!), the people were kind. I don't have a bad thing to say! Our vacation was so peaceful, we truly felt the Aloha at Kauai Beach Resort. One thing of note, although it wasn't a negative for us - there is no swimming beach. I'm sure other reviews have already mentioned that...but it is so easy to get to other beaches in Kauai that it is really no problem at all if you rent a car. We took one day and drove to the north side of the island from the hotel and it was a beautiful trip - worth the rental car expense and I highly recommend it!

Pros
- good location
- nice landscaping
- 3 pools, 2 hotubs, 1 slide
- kind cleaning staff
- good value
- spacious rooms
- modern

Cons
- the older women at reception are not friendly at all, they could learn a little something about being kind from their cleaning staff
- no hospitality (upgrades)
- pillow and sheets had blood stains
- they didn't change the sheets until we asked them to
- rooms smell like mildew
- $17/day for parking
- $15+ for a mixed drink
- food prices are outlandish (there are many grocery stores near by, I suggest stocking up there)
- the beach/ocean is to rocky to get into

Aloha and thank you for your review of the Kauai Beach Resort. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and we are pleased that you found our location to be convenient and the accommodations of good value. With respect to your concerns of the hospitality upgrades and parking fees, we do offer upgrades upon availability and we do not charge a daily resort fee that usually start at $40. Although we do not recommend swimming in the ocean fronting the resort, we do suggest the beautiful three-mile stretch of sandy beach and swimming areas just north of the resort. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your comments and we hope to have the pleasure of your return visit. Mahalo.

We have to say we lucked out by picking this hotel resort just in seeing it online. Super nice, great food, very friendly personnel all around. Super clean hotel, pool and landscaping. Very quiet and far away from main road. Location is perfect right in middle to the north and west side of island. Beach, best walking beach on the island if you like to walk in the morning. Wales, you see them every day from in front of the hotel beach. Breakfast buffet was very good and a great way to start the day.

We checked in very smoothly & received an upgrade because it was our anniversary! After traveling through 30 countries for various events (birthdays, honeymoon, etc), this was the FIRST upgrade we ever received for a special occasion, so it was fabulous! It wasn't magnificent, but it was a lagoon view instead of a pool view, so it was nice.

Everything was clean, the rooms were a pretty good size, and the pool area is gorgeous. We didn't try their restaurants on property but heard good things. They also have a gift shop with a ton of every day items like cold medicine, beer, etc, so it was nice to be able to pick up some stuff we needed (albeit at CRAZY prices but that's expected).

The hotel is in a good location; we had family staying at the Kauai Beach Villas right next door, so it was convenient for us (both units share the property). We felt pretty close to town, and there's a Costco & Walmart about 15 minutes away which were great for stocking up on food and other things.

The only thing that I think kinda bummed me out was that I feel the name is a bit misleading. I pictured a resort on the beach, with a ton of ocean view rooms & lounging chairs/swimming out front. This resort IS on a beach, but you can't swim in it due to rocky conditions & Man of War jellyfish, and there isn't even really a place to sit out there. So it was very different from what I pictured, but it's my fault for not reading reviews close enough to see that. Not a deal breaker, just a surprise.

All in all it was a great vacation!

Room Tip: Definitely let them know if you're celebrating something!!
