Check in was a breeze! We checked in after doing the 11 mile hike back from Kalalau beach so the fact that our room was ready 2 hours before check in was wonderful! They got us in fairly quickly and the room was nice. About as updated as Kauai in general is with a SUPER Comfy bed. I can't stress enough, this is the best bed we stayed on in the 4 hotels we stayed at during our trip. The bathroom is nice and clean and the chaise lounge was wonderful to hang out in.

We ate at the pool bar and Ono for dinner and breakfast. We were actually fairly surprised at the quality of the food. Steak was cooked perfectly, breakfast was amazing and the quinoa cake appetizers were scrumptious. Our servers both times were awesome and friendly. We love hearing everyone's story of where they have lived or why they live in Kauai. The bartender at the pool grill was great. Really lovely service overall.

We tried booking a heli tour and guest services were really great and helpful! They really did bend over backwards to make sure we could do what we wanted. It did rain the last day we were there so we couldn't do the heli tour but not for lack of trying. They called multiple companies and did everything possible.

We don't go on vacations to hang out at the hotel too much, but this was a great place to rest our heads and a lot of decent food if you don't have a car. We also booked them on Hotwire so for $131 a night after tax, we were happy as can be!

Location is excellent, at center of island.Facility is in great condition. Ambiance is classic. Breakfast is good but pricey. (Go to Ono instead). Dinner is prepared by a great kitchen staff and is on a level with the best on the island. Rooms are spacious and squeeky clean, with a nice view of the pool area/ocean. The rate was a bargain (Jan visit 155 promotion). We feel we were lucky to have picked this place over others we could have selected.

I was very pleased with my experience at the Kauai Beach Resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. I recommend a manicure with Leonie at the salon! My room was comfortable and clean. I liked the location because it was close to many attractions yet it was far enough away from the "touristy areas" so I got the R & R I was looking for. The grounds were beautiful and I saw some amazing sunsets. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in a privately owned "condo" at Kauai Beach Resort for a week and had a great time. The resort itself is a little isolated but a $40 cab ride gets you to and from Kapa'a for a little shopping. The room was clean and comfortable but I would have liked a microwave. I agree with the review regarding the restaurant/lounge; it's actually called Shutters, not Shooters, and is expensive with small portions, little variety, and mediocre service. The Driftwood Bar and Grill had much better food. The beach was disappointing with a lot of debris, rocks, and no swimming, but the surf was beautiful. The pools were cool and clean and there were plenty of lounge chairs. I would definitely stay here again; this resort is a great value despite some minor issues.

My wife and I stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort during our honeymoon. We had just come from a Hyatt Resort in Maui, which was wonderful. Based on the reviews online, we were expecting the Kauai Beach Resort to be a 4-star experience, comparable to a Hyatt or Marriot resort. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. In sum, this property seems to be a 2.5 (or maybe 3) star hotel with some resort type amenities. While virtually anywhere in Kauai can be a good place to spend a few days, it was not nearly the quality of hotel that we hoped for during our honeymoon.

In general, the property is not kept up in an attractive way. There are glaring dirt spots in the lawn, furniture in the room is a bit dated and sometimes broken. The amenities are fairly basic, and service is somewhat spotty; some people are wonderful, most are good, and there were a couple who apparently didn’t mind giving us dirty looks here and there for seemingly simple requests. As a point of comparison, we saw none of these issues with the Hyatt Resort in Maui or the Marriot Resort to which we ultimately moved in Kauai. A few points in particular that made things worse:

1) The parking lot was an absolute disaster (in worse condition than many roads for which our guide book recommended 4 wheel drive) and a constant hassle to traverse, particularly at night. To make matters worse, they wouldn’t even allow us to drive close our room to drop things off because that was the “valet” area. We are lucky not to have twisted an ankle walking through there while carrying things in the dark!

2) We waited in line for about 30 minutes before getting to the front desk. This was not a wonderful way to start our stay after a day of traveling.

3) The “Ocean View” room had no such vista; in fact, our room had an enormous palm tree blocking the view. They were nice enough to move us, but, even after moving, my perception is that “Ocean View” is only a reasonable description if one stands in the particular corner of the room that faces directly towards the ocean direction.

4) The roosters apparently freely roam around the property and start crowing very loudly at 6:30 – 7am. Particularly since we were on the first floor during our stay, this made it very hard for us to get a good night’s sleep. Roosters are everywhere on the island, but we didn't face this issue at the Marriot.

5) To make things more frustrating, we found that rooms just like ours were available at more than a 50% discount through Home Away.

We were sufficiently unhappy that we decided to relocate (no easy task in late December / early January). Ultimately, we found a deal on Home Away and moved to the Marriot Beach Resort. While the room was a “Garden View”, it was a full one-bedroom for only a little more than were paying at the Kauai Beach Resort, and actually had a slight view of the ocean from virtually anywhere in the room. Even better was that we could keep the balcony doors open and still have some privacy…and we could start the day without hearing the roosters crowing.

Aloha and thank you for taking the time to write your feedback on your recent stay at the Kauai Beach Resort. Needless to say, we apologize that our resort did not suit your needs and that you chose to go elsewhere. We have just completed our photo voltaic parking structure and several other enahancements to our property. Perhaps you would give us another try to see the hotel in its new light and experience our "service with aloha" that we take great pride in providing our guests. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Garden Island. Mahalo!

We stayed one night at the Kauai Beach Resort. The price was reasonable, and they offered valet parking at the same price as self parking (since self park was under going construction). We were in building 2, and had a nice view of the grounds and the ocean. We looked down on a roof top, but that did not bother us. The table and chairs on our balcony were a high set, so we had a good view. The room was nicely done and the bed was very comfortable. We had a refrigerator in our room. The grounds of the hotel were very nice. We were disappointed the water-slide was not running when we arrived around 5:00pm, but it was running the next morning.

Pool towels can only be picked up by the pool at certain times, and if you need a towel not during those times you have to go to the front desk to get one. We tried on two occasions to do this, and the line was so long at the front desk that we did not get our towels. We asked if there was a separate line just to get towels and we were told we had to wait in the main check in line.

We were very disappointed with the restaurant. We went to the lounge, which I believe is called Shooters. It was first come first serve with the tables (no kids at the bar). We saw several tables where kids just seemed to sit, while the parents bellied up to the bar. The music playing was nice, and we finally got a table for four. We were never asked if we wanted drinks after sitting, it took quite some time to get the waitress to come and take our drink order. Even after she took the order we waited a long time. We were extremely disappointed with the food we ordered. Very over-priced, not good, and very small portions. The hamburger was blah and dry, the onion soup tasted like it was from a can, the tofu salad was a joke, hardly any salad at all! The worst were the 3 fist tacos for over $10. They were the smallest tacos we had ever seen. Please see my picture with this review, seriously, so small we could not believe it. The food is all brought out by someone other than the waitress, but from the main restaurant. They walk around, holding the food, trying to find the right table. When the food got to our table the gentleman just put it down and never asked us if we needed anything, like ketchup for the fries! Our waitress never came back to see if we needed anything. We got up and finally found a person that could get us ketchup and mustard. We were never asked if we wanted another drink. Our bill for dinner was outrageous. Don't eat at the lounge! You are better off to order a pizza, or go into town.

I would have given this review a 3, but the hotel itself (not including the restaurants) was very nice, especially the grounds.

Email me if you have any questions.

I must say we were here last year and the service was magnificent, they went overboard to please bur I am here right now and as much as I would give this resort five stars as I love everything about it...the service this year sucks. We have cockroaches in the room. It started the first two hours of being there finding one in my purse...immediately asking for room change and being told none available..and hearing that everyday as we find more bugs. All that is offered is bug spraying but who wants smell of spray in room and I have respiratory issues so that is not an option and I have told them that every day. I understand it is tropical and bugs exist..but when you see more than one...and no help...it's frustrating. Last bug spotting..last night around 7pm...ugh. I have read other reviews and this is mentioned before.
