We booked (3) excursions through the hotel concierge and
they were great....Thanks Jennifer M.
The hotel was clean and the housekeeping people
did a great job. Very relaxing and the parking lot was a very
minor inconvience but what the hell....your in Hawaii.
I would stay there again....no problem

Just spent 1 week @ this resort with my family. The cost (for Hawaii) was on the low side, and the overall value was good which is how we ended up here. The property itself is in excellent shape with the exception of the parking (looks like the solar panel covered hardtop project is nearing completion). We found the room ("mountain view") to be more than adequate for the 3 of us, with comfortable beds, nice functional balcony and very good air conditioning. It is an older property so if you look for it you will find wear and tear here and there (broken shower curtain rod in our bath for example). But it is clear that for the most part the staff tries very hard, and keeps this property clean and well running in most areas. The pools are nice, rarely crowded, and you can almost always find a place to put your stuff while you lounge or swim. The beach is very nice to stroll along with a nice tide pool directly in front of the pool, but is too rough (winter at least) to swim in. And the location is actually very convenient; easy to get to the restaurants, Starbucks and stores on the east side of the island, or drive to the north or south shores (we found when we stayed previously in Poipu that it was a long haul to get to the north shore area). There were a few things that keep me from giving it a better than average review: the gym is very small and what is worse the cardio equipment is quite literally rusting away. Neither of the two treadmills worked reliably, and the isolation of the resort worked against running outside since for any real distance means running along the highway. We also did not like the parking situation at all. Paying for parking in a muddy pot hole infested self park; really? Why are they charging for parking at all (even when they finish the hard top lot). We ended up using the valet parking, which was inconsistent in terms of responsiveness. And there were a few times where the service in the outdoor bar was less than prompt; not even a quick acknowledgement when busy. Despite these areas of improvement I would probably stay here again for the right price, taking into account the hidden costs for parking.

Is currently sitting in their shutter lounge and extremely not satisfied with their service. Stayed for New Year's Eve and was here last night to celebrate.

Issue 1: Got here at about 9:45pm and wanted to order food and drinks. Asked a waitress for food and she said the kitchen might be closed and will check. She's walking around and ignored us for 15mins, then told us the kitchen just closed and she'll do what she can. She actually picked our food for us, which was a turkey sandwich and salad. We were appreciative to get any kinds of food so we agreed. All this while everyone else for the next hour was getting burgers and other pupus. So obviously the kitchen weren't closed. But we finally got our food and the turkey sandwich was sloppily put together and no mayo and mustard was added. Our salad was freshly cut but the problem was that is wasn't mixed. I got all the green parts of the lettuce and my gf got all the white parts. Our entire time in the lounge they keep on wantng to take our plates even though we were done yet. Oh and for two turkey sandwich and salad $44.

Issue 2: bell desk is unhelpful and impolite, wanted to leave our bags and pick the up. We waited at the bell desk for service, there were two working at the time And they helped everyone but us while we were waiting right at the desk. After making an effort to get some help, the bellman gave us the tickets and didn't take our bags. We asked him, do you want us to put our bags on the side? He sAid no, he'll take the bags right after I make this phone call. Wtf??

There's other issues too but this review is getting too long.

Not a very good place to stay if you're in kauai.

The hotel itself is well kept, functional, and the staff is very friendly. The location is beautiful and the beach is within feet of the hotel. The food at the resturants is good and there is variety in places to eat. My family and i overall enjoyed our stay at the kauai beach hotel.

With this said, our only complaint was the people that we had to share the hotel with. It is our belief that the low rates of the hotel attract not so family friendly guests. Many times at night we heard screaming and other noises in our hallway. And often encountered clearly drunk guests stumble through areas of the hotel.

Keeping in mind that this is not directly the fault of the hotel, our stay was a overall good one and i would reccomend this hotel for a simple, pleasant, stay on kauai.

Our stay was fantastic. If you want to relax this is the place to go. When we were there the resort was full but you'd never know it. There was always plenty of space at the pool, a lounge chair was always available.
The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the staff were so nice, very relaxed but everything got done and it was never an issue for anything we asked.
You can get by without a car but I'd strongly recommend you hire one as the Island is beautiful but taxis and the bus service isn't the most reliable. Alternatively you could just lounge by the pool or beach all day drinking piña coladas

Room Tip: A room looking over the pool is great, and you can get ocean views too, very nice

Lovely resort with pools and access to beach. Ground Foor Room overlooked front to pool which was exactly what we wanted. Very relaxing and very affordable, especially when Buffet breakfast included. Snacks around pool very good. Easy to airport. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Room to face pool and beach where you can sit outside and relax with a cocktail before dinner

Had a nice stay at the KBR in December 2012 during our first trip to Kauai. The grounds are well maintained and the kids enjoyed the pool areas. We chose this resort because of the location, as to not make too long of drives in the morning or evening as we explored all over the island.

Not a perfect stay there, though. The renovation of the self parking lot is going on right now, relegating the self parking guests to a dirt lot on the side of the property. It rained a bit where we were there, creating a huge mud puddle. I started dropping off the wife and kids at the lobby, then heading to the parking lot of get muddy on my own. How the resort still has the nerve to charge their guests daily to park here is beyond me. Parking should be free until the renovation is complete.

Additionally, our kids found a stain on their sheets that looked like blood (gross!). We called housekeeping and no answer, so I called the front desk. They said that housekeeping had just left for the night as it was after 10 pm but they would send a runner to get us new sheets. We got a call 5 minutes later from the front desk saying that the runner would be at our room in 5 minutes. It was about 1/2 hour after that call when the guy finally came. No apology for being late, so no tip for the runner.
