We had the pleasure of staying 5 nights at this resort in May 2011. Since we were island hopping, we unfortunately only stayed here 5 nights….this was a travesty on our part! This was our first time on Kauai, so we thought it to be criminal not to explore the island…which we did (every inch of it). However, we missed out on the amenities of this wonderful resort. Looking back, I would have stayed an extra two nights here to have relaxation days and not leave this property. We had a bottom floor pool view room. Off of our patio, it took 10 steps to the waterfall pool. We relaxed by the pool only about 4 hours on this trip, but we came home nightly to sit on the patio and enjoy either the ukulele player’s music or enjoy the beautiful weather listening to the waterfall while finishing a good book or catch up on our travel blog.

Our spacious room had updated and tasteful décor with ample space for our clothing and was impeccably clean. Since we were gone pretty much sunrise-sunset, we did not eat at the resort to comment on the food or service here. The two pools and Jacuzzi were a dream for me…mainly because they weren’t crowded anytime we saw them (don’t need to wake early for a lounger). A very nice perk of this resort (one of only 2-3 resorts in Kauai) is free airport shuttle. We had a rental, but got to shave off one day rental fee by dropping the car off at 10pm the night before we were departing and then catching a ride back to the hotel with the free airport shuttle (and of course catching the shuttle to the airport the next afternoon to hop to a different island). We didn’t have plans the day we were flying out and didn’t need the car so this helped save a little money (rental car fee and hotel parking fee). It only took about 20 minutes to drop the car off and get back to the hotel.
I have only 1.5 complaints with this resort. The beach is not a swimmable beach, so I wouldn’t recommend this property if your desires are to lounge on the beach. For us, this didn’t make any difference because we wanted to explore other beach parks or “hidden gems” anyhow. We personally had a bad experience with young, drunk, local teenagers banging on doors and running up and down the hallway of our building at 2am, which made for a very unpleasant experience. We first asked them politely to leave. 20 minutes later, they continued and then proceeded to call us “haole’s” and told us to go back where we came from. I know this could have occurred at any resort and don’t fault the resort for this, but it was unpleasant nonetheless.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. The location was fantastic to be a base to explore the entire island.

Room Tip: Poolview a must...bottom floor patio especially

Seldom have we encountered such a friendly and helpful staff. From the porters and concierge to the restaurant greeter and excursion sales rep.... these people seemed genuinely eager to serve and to please.

By Hawaii resort standards, the Kauai Beach Resort is modest but nonetheless lovely and satisfying. Frankly, I can't imagine going to Kauai just to stay put at a resort. Kauai has to be one of the most magnificent places on earth. There is so much to explore that you need a rental car.

That said, this resort seems to fill an interesting niche: a family place where you can spend the day entertained but still use the resort as a base camp for further explorations. At less than half the price of the Hyatt, you won't feel compelled to stay here all day just to get your money's worth. Plus the Kauai Beach Resort is located halfway between the lush north shore and sunny south so drive times are reasonable.

The beach in front of the resort, while fine for walking, is too rocky for swimming. We were told that a 5 minute walk north takes you to a safer place to swim. But I did not go there. Many east coast beaches share this issue.

We hadn't been back to Kauai for some time but we liked the resort the first time and we didn't need a car so we got the shuttle from the airport with no charge. We were here 8 days for pure relaxation and toured the island last time. The grounds are kept up beautifully and all the pools are great. The restaurant is very good but a bit spendy . Other options available--like eating in the bar area and outside by the pool. There was entertainment in the bar lounge and other exhibits in the lobby . The front desk had great hawaiian hospitality and our room was on the 2nd flood lagoon facing the ocean with a great view. We had room service from the dining menu and it was super. We have no complaints and when in Kauai we will certainly be back but we will bring our kids and grandchildren --they would love the sandy beach pool..

We stayed here for three days on a recent trip to the Hawaii islands. All in all, the Kauai Beach Resort was a very good choice. The lobby is open air with a clear view of the pool and palm trees. Adjacent is an open and very attractive lounge area, well integrated into the space; there are several locations there from which to use one's laptop. A restaurant is there, also, with outside seating near the pool area. We didn't eat there, but it was very attractive and prices were no worse than the usual in Hawaii.

Our room was on the third floor with a clear view of the pool, palm trees, and ocean, quite beautiful. The room was perfectly fine; the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Housekeeping was very good.

The beach itself is quite beautiful but rocky. The pools at this resort are very nice if you do want the water and lounging, good for both kids and adults.

If you have a car and drive up the Kuhio Highway, there is a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Kapaa, not too far from the hotel. This is a great place to have coffee and something simple for breakfast if you don't want to pay an exhorbitant price for a hotel breakfast. Starbucks is there, also, as well as other eateries if you're in the area for other meals.

There is a "South Pacific" performance one night at the resort, but we had reservations at the Smith Family Luau instead. The South Pacific performance at the hotel might be fun if you do choose to do this. Another late afternoon there were mai tais (not real strong) by the pool, with music and a hula performance. The dancers were lovely and talented, not hokey. So, we enjoyed that very much.

The only cons we experienced were that upon arrival, we were told twice that we weren't allowed to park where we did. The first time, we apparently parked in valet parking and had to move. Then we parked in front of the hotel and were told to move because it was a fire zone. We were very frustrated that we had come to this hotel with our business ($$$) and the hotel was making it difficult for us to check in. Just a bad start to the stay. Another con is that we kept getting messages on our room phone that an 8:30 introductory session to the island, as well as a discounted breakfast, would be given downstairs each morning. I feared this was really a time-share sales pitch.

However, I give the hotel credit for asking for customer feedback after our stay, so I included the bad with the good. I did receive a response and apology for the parking issue, and perhaps the hotel has corrected that.

Apparently, this hotel has undergone a successful renovation. We found our room and the public areas to be very nice. There is a high quality gift and clothing shop on the main floor. Staff are very helpful. All in all, a very good stay. I would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view.

This hotel was nice but was not up to 4-star standards as advertised. We used hotwire and got a great rate for a 4-star hotel but if I was to do this again I would have choosen to stay in a Hilton or Starwood property. The furniture in the rooms was old and clanky. We had a ocean view room but it wasn't really an ocean view room. You had to literally stick your neck out of the balcony to see the ocean. 2 things were nice about this hotel, the service and the attitude everyone working there had and the happy hour at the pool side bar. $3 bud lights and $3 Mai Tais. from 4 - 6 everyday. Outside of that, okay hotel.

Average hotel, was clean and friendly but in desperate need of an update. It is a resort that we felt trapped in without a car. There is nowhere to go outside unless you hire a car. The entertainment in the evening was dire. We went to bed at 9pm to watch tv on our honeymoon as it was too much to bear to sit watching the entertainment.
We got a car as quick as we could and left the hotel early in the morning and came back late at night, having eaten at far nicer restaurants then the one they had in the hotel which was expensive and not very nice.
They promote the hotel by saying beautiful sandy beaches stretch for 3 miles, it may stretch for 3 miles but its not one you can relax on, its covered in branches and stones. Normal for a beach perhaps, but can not even closely compare it with some of the paradise beaches we have been to in Thailand, Malaysia and the Maldives.

Stayed here in June of 2010 after a L-O-N-G exhausting week showing friends around on on O'ahu. First stop (even before the room...did I mention the week was exhausting?) was the beach bar. BEST MAI TAI ever! Reasonable prices and the bar food was delicious! The room was beautifully appointed, over-looked the huge pool, that will accomodate adults and children separately. The complex is quiet with the exception of an occasional morning wake-up call from the rooster (Kauai is covered in chickens like NYC is covered in pigeons!). Its comical and kinda fun! We relaxed poolside for almost 3 days and took long walks on the beach. The beach is "rustic" and has strong currents and waves; not considered a swimming beach, but is beautiful for a long romantic stroll. The hotel staff was warm and welcoming, with the one exception being the morning restaurant staff, but hey go down the road to Ono Family restaurant for breakfast and don't worry about it. Great rates, excellent staff, beautiful rooms, great pool, pool-side Hawaiian show, easy parking, quick access to great beaches and shopping within 10 minutes of the resort. I will stay here again.
