“Restaurant turns into an 80's Disco Scene”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2012

This Lihue Restaurant recently started turning into a late night disco nightclub. they are still a restaurant, but by 9pm or so, they open up a dance floor and a young dj prepares to belt out "oldies" mixed in with hip hop music according to the crowd. Main crowd appears to be local folks in their 30's to 60's, so the dj adjusts the music to suit the crowd. We enjoyed ourselves and the dance floor wasn't too crowded. The restaurant owners offer varied pupus, and complimentary pupu's and reasonably priced drinks. Perfect night scene for the older crowd!

“Lihue local chow worth eating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2012

Located next to the Chevron station on the south side of Lihue, this place is funky and full of charm.
We stuck to the local chow per other Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed; generous servings, great kalua pig and kalbi ribs. Modest salad and sides, but for $11.99 each quite a value. Charming new waitress, good iced tea. We sat near the rear door, which kept opening up as the breeze gusted. Knocked over the pupus sign once but kept us oxygenated.
Go there for authentic, reasonably priced island food.

“Good, quick, affordable dinner - Saimin”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2011

We stopped in the parking lot to check directions to a Saimin restaurant, and a staff member popped out to offer his help. After giving us directions, he told us they served good Saimin too. He was so friendly, we decided to stay. The atmosphere was casual - a musician there playing on keyboard and guitar. They had several large screen tvs with football playing, and what looked like a full bar. Staff was very friendly. We both ordered the Saimin, and enjoyed it very much! Can't comment on the rest of the menu, but we enjoyed the casual atmosphere and very friendly service.

We will definitely visit again!

“Average, at best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2011

We love vacationing on Kauai, and finding the "local" eateries. This place had the look and feel of a great spot. However, the breakfast we had was mediocre, the service was terrible, and the coffee was awful. We especially enjoy the great coffee in Hawaii, so it really surprised us how bad it was. Don't bother.

“Mediocre”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2011

Tiano's Restaurant (formerly called Tiano's Island Cuisine) may be okay for a quick lunch but did not meet our expectations for dinner. We ordered some type of Hawaiian variety plate and the food was mediocre at best. Not much flavor and the presentation unimaginative. Our waiter was very nice and was trying really hard to please but didn't seem quite comfortable with his chosen profession. At the time of our visit (September 2011), the restaurant did serve non-alcoholic beverages only even though they were set up for a bar, this may have changed by now. The iced tea we had was tasteless, we should have stuck with plain water instead. Not our best meal on Kauai.
