“Beautiful and Luxurious place with excellent service”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

We were invited here to view the Marriott Vacation property. Although we are familiar with many other Marriott hotels, and some Vacation resorts, we have been much impressed with the location, facilities, staff and the ambiance. This is a very large property, with the Hotel and the Vacation Resort sharing most facilities such as the pool, with 5 outdoor Jacuzzi, golf course and a very fine beach. The large pool is absolutely the best we have seen. The resort is very close to the LIH airport with free shuttle on request. The staff is very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed this resort, and the island itself with many sites to see. We definitely would like to visit this resort.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room with ocean view

The Marriott Kauai Beach Club is a great place either to just relax or to participate in active adventures. The concierges can book helicoptor island tours, horseback riding, etc. The resort fronts the best beach on Kauai for families. The wave action is gentle and the beach has a sandy bottom. The timeshare villas have just undergone a refurbishment and the bathrooms are especially nice. New Marriott mattresses provide as good night's sleep. Since part of the property is a Marriott hotel there is also full range of restaurants which are quit

e good. The pool area is one of the best in Hawaii. Special kudos to Sherri and her staff who provide excellent service to the Marriott guests.

Pros...we traded though Interval, so the price was right. We got a two bedroom on the 6th floor of Kilohana tower and had a fabulous view. Rooms were clean and recently painted. Service was good. Staff at Dukes were especially friendly. Free on demand shuttle to and from the airport, which is very close. That means you can rent a car for only the days that you need it. Costco is close so it is easy to stock your room with water, etc. Centrally located.
Cons...construction in the tower meant noise during the day and for two days we didn't have water for a few hours...but they did give plenty of warning. NO washer or dryer in the units. Pack accordingly. Small fridge and microwave...don't plan to cook much. FYI...One bedroom had a window that doesn't open and a bathroom with no fan and no window. A little strange.
Did not use the pool or go into the water in front of the hotel due to rain and muddy water. Did go to the beach in poipu one sunny day. We bought a beach umbrella in Poipu and left it with the bellman when we left the marriott. I think many people do this and you can ask if they have them available to use before you buy one.

Room Tip: Kilohana tower has ocean views. End rooms the best. We were in 636.

I just returned from this property, and it was great - highly recommended.

Pros:
- The staff . Like just about everyone I encountered in Hawaii, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
- There are a number of shops and restaurants directly beside the resort, less than a five minute walk away. You have a lot of options for eating and dining (highly recommend The Feral Pig).
- The pool. I mean, look at the photos.
- The beach. It is a secluded beach in a bay that is absolutely breathtaking. I really enjoyed seeing the locals bringing their dogs down to play.
- The grounds. The common areas and the gardens were beautiful.

Cons:
- Okay, the room was kind of small, but much like Vegas, what are you doing in your Hawaii hotel room aside from sleeping and...uh...other stuff in the bed?
- My "ocean view" room was primarily of the roof of the floors below me.
- Overall fanciness/luxuriousness factor is not super-high. I wouldn't go here on my honeymoon or for my 25th anniversary, but for pretty much anything else it's a yes.

I can't believe other people complained about this stuff in their reviews:
- Drink prices. Not out of line with any other place I went in two weeks in Hawaii. Plus, they have wait staff come to your freaking lounge chair when you're at the pool or on the beach. #winning
- Bugs. None in my room unless I left my balcony door open. Newsflash: tropical climate = bugs.
- Restaurants: I admittedly didn't try Kukui's, but Duke's and Portofino were great. And if you don't like those or their prices, there are about 10 more restaurants within a five minute walk.

I tend to read the 1 star reviews on TripAdvisor first, sometimes because they are informative but usually because they make me laugh (seriously, someone gave this property one star because her husband got a bug bite). In this case, I think the negative reviews have a theme - people were expecting a five star resort at a place that charges three star prices. Bottom line: you want the world's most luxurious resort, go to the St. Regis and pay more than twice as much. If you want a great vacation spot, go to this place.

This was my second stay in this place. I stay in the Vacation club property. Really enjoy the Kalapaki beach. You can always swim or do ocean kayaking even when there is high surf on other beaches. Great gardens. Comparable to the Allerton botanical gardens :)
Had great view from my 8-th floor room. Service was great. Used the Scuba company located next to the pool to organize a 1-tank dive off of Koloa landing. very good and caring instructor.

Room Tip: I personally prefer higher floor.

I am a 30 year platinum marriott member and have stayed at 100's of there properties. I paid a rather high price for a less than average room. I was promised and paid for an ocean view and what i got was a scenic view of a roof top and court yard. Elevator was broken, water was turned off for a day. The front desk was most unhelpful as was the asst manager. Only after i got aggressive did they see the need to try and fix the problems. Would never stay here again even if the room was free. Try another property you will not regret it.

Wish we would have stayed here before Ko Olina--we were sorely disappointed when we got here expecting a fine Marriott resort. This is the old Kauai Surf--I stayed here in the 70's, but Marriott took it over after the hurricane in the 90's. It is a beautiful property, with extensive gardens, a lovely beach cove, and a huge swimming pool. They charge for everything, including fitness classes. We are Marriott Vacation Club (timeshare) owners and this is much more like a hotel than a timeshare villa. When we look at it that way, it's not so bad! The Concierge service is excellent. My husband used the stairway the other day to get to the ice machine on the next floor (our floor's machine was broken). He insisted on taking me to see the stairs, as he thought it was a good measure of the lack of real care this hotel gets--it truly was an awful looking stairwell! (We had a fire alarm the other day--many people upstairs got a tour of this stairway)! We are in the first floor of the Kahili Tower. Nice gardens outside the door, and not far to the grills (there were 3 grills when we arrived, but one wasn't working, so they removed it!). This place needs some TLC.
