A really fun evening, an explanation of how to cook the pig, a tour of the garden's etc. Dinner was really a surprise considering the no. of people in attendance. The show after dinner was beautifully done with explanations added, a plus! Enjoyed the entire evening, and the hostesses and hosts were very helpful. At dinner one of the ladies noticed that I have only one hand and asked my cousin if I needed extra help, completely unexpected but greatly appreciated. Thank you for the kindness shown!

This was our second luau in Kauai. Our previous trip 3 years ago we attended another luau and this was - by far - was the best. The food was excellent, the train tour ahead of time was fabulous, the drinks were plenty and the food was excellent. The staff was so friendly and nice and they encouraged us to go back for seconds and thirds. The entertainment was excellent; however, my only one complaint was the seating. It was not conducive to someone (such as my son and husband) who have bad backs. Also, the walk back to the parking lot from the entertainment was pretty difficult for my husband who also has bad knees but if neither are an issue, then this is the luau for you! Highly recommend it! The Smith Family are very hospitable. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We watched the ceremony raising the pig out of the pit, walked that acres of flowers, trees, birds, and other scenery taking lots of pictures. The pork was really good along with many of there other dishes. HAD to try the Poi. Doesn't taste that great but you need to understand that it was originally used to offset the saltiness of the salted meats in the old days. This Luau includes all you can drink and we really liked their Mai Tais? They had traditional Hawaiian music playing while you ate and then you walked over to where the performance was. They have a volcano that shoots out fire and a hula dancer rises out of the mist to dance. They showcase all different types of cultures in their dancing, including Tahitian, Chinese, Japanese, Polynesian, and yes they had the normal hula dancers and fire dancers.

I did alot of research before choosing which Luau to visit while we were on the island. I chose the smith family luau because it was billed as more authentic and less commercialized. I would have to agree with that description, the participants in the show were normal people and not vegas showgirls. The grounds alone were gorgeous, they really have everything down to a science. If you arrive early they guide right from the entrance to a tram for a very short tour around the grounds, pointing out the main attractions for the evening. Then you have time to wander around and take in the pretty sights before watching the Imu ceremony. Then everyone settles in to the main banquet area with their cocktails, which we plentiful but not strong. The food was amazing, especially the kaulua pig. They provided some nice dinner entertainment and of course so hula lessons. Then everyone moved over to the theatre for the show. It was a nice bleacher type set-up that faces a lagoon with a large volcano in the middle. The show was full of many different types of dances from around the area, and the fire dancing was excellent. Overall the show and the food were well worth the price, there are other more expensive choices on the island but I can't see them doing anything so drastically different to make them worth it. I would highly recommend spending an evening at the smith family luau.
