The grounds where the event is held is on a botanical garden of about 30-40 acres. Amazing birds, fruit trees and ponds are open prior to the dinner and show.
The dinner is buffet style with cafeteria seating. The bar is open bar. They call each table up one at a time so it's not crazy! The food was amazing. Sweet and sour mahi mahi, adobo chicken and numerous other items.
The show is after dinner though they have a small band performing local music during the meal. The show was beautiful and lasted just over an hour. Erupting volcanos, grass skirts and twirling fire was all included. DO NOT MISS this on your trip to Kauai!

Loved the gardens. Loved the food. Loved the lagoon theater where the performance was. Didn't love all the mosquito bites I got, but shame on me for not wearing OFF.

The Smith Family has their poop in a group! This is the best luau I've attended (out of four) and I would recommend it to anyone looking to do a luau on Kauai.

Want unlimited food and adult beverages? This is the place! Want to see an imu ceremony? This one is well narrated and goes quickly so you can actually film the whole thing on your smart phone or camera. Want a great show afterwards in a comfortable, sheltered outdoor location? Check again!

The tram takes you around the grounds for a quick tour when you arrive and the compound is amazingly beautiful. They really have done a lot of work creating a wonderful place to come visit. (TIP: Show up a bit early to look around the grounds before the imu ceremony and dinner starts.)

The food was very good, especially the pork which was very moist and flavorful. The chicken was also excellent. The beef was good, but watch out for fat (and it can be a bit tough.) Still, the flavor was quite good. Unlimited mai tais along with beer or wine come with your ticket price, so don't be shy if you want something to drink. Dinner is accompanied by live music which made it fun.

The luau itself takes place at a separate location from where you eat dinner, but it is a very short walk (or you can take the tram.) You are under an overhang (good in case it rains!) but the performance occurs outside on a deck over a pond with a lava mountain backdrop and the show was really well choreographed, illuminated, and musically accompanied. Our whole family loved it (especially the beginning where the goddess Pele throws fire across the sky!)

Great luau for a family or couples. You won't soon forget it. The Smith Family puts their name on this event and they make sure to do themselves proud. It shows.

If it weren't for the lovely grounds, I think I would rate this one lower. I've been to a few luaus during my visits to different islands, and they were excellent. I wish I could say the same for this one. The pluses: free shuttle to area hotels, great family atmosphere, and lovely grounds among the garden. Disappointments: the drinks and the performance. One man dropped his fire not once, but twice. EEEk! Oh well. The food was decent, but not worth writing home about.

I'd say go if you have small children or are looking for something to do... but I'm glad that we didn't pay full price (upwards of $70+ per person) because I'd be sorely disappointed. Try and get a discount if you can.

This is the second time we've done Smith's. The food was wonderful. Our favorites were the Kalua pig and teryaki beef. The garden has every plant and tree of Kauai, but the tram seemed rushed and there was no time for folks to take pictures or even keep up with what the guy was referencing. The show as fun, but this in this year's performance the men were less natural and provocative as the women. We saw the show two years ago and at least the men were shirtless.
This year, it was geared toward male guests and less natural in showing the men which is the tradition of hula.
