We were not impressed with the luau. The meal was not worth the price and the show area seating was horrible. You could not sit for too long and had to keep fidgeting to stay comfortable. The dance show was great - that is worth seeing. The food was not very kid friendly - we went Maui and had a nice luau there with a kid's station. The dessert was jello and fresh fruit - we expected "desserts" not jello and fruit - they had a coconut cake and coconut pudding as other dessert but they needed more choices.

This was our first trip to Kauai, but not our first trip to the Hawaiian Islands. We have been to several luaus before but this is the first one that had the dinner and show in separate venues. The grounds are beautiful. The peacocks were spectacular. And of course you are on Kauai so there are chickens and roosters EVERYWHERE!

This is a family run operation and you can tell that they put their heart and soul into the family business. The food was very good and even though it was a large crowd, it was well organized and everyone got plenty of food! Buffets are not our favorite dining choice, but this one was very good. The pork and the teriyaki beef were excellent and I especially enjoyed the coconut cake and rice pudding for dessert (I have to admit I went back for seconds on the rice pudding! It was yummy!).

The show was excellent. The best luau entertainment we have had the privilege to experience. Even the rain did not stop the show. We were lucky, it did not rain until the very end of the show, and then it came down in buckets! We thought it was part of the show until we realized that it was really raining. Because you are on Kauai, one of the wettest places on earth, the venues are covered, so no worries, the dinner pavilion and the entertainment theater are both covered. But you might want to bring a collapsible umbrella, just in case!

Luaus are something that we typically do not attend. However, this trip had first time visitors to Hawaii. The luau was gifted to us. Be aware that there is a $10 discount if ordering online. In addition, free transportation can be included from some local accommodations.
We went to make an "evening" of the event. We were there when the explanations were given for the imu and luau. We took the little trolley trip around the property. We had the luau. The food was served efficiently. The food was well presented. There was enough variety to serve many food needs and concerns. It was very clean. There were staff members to assist you for directions. All in all, it something that I can do about once every 7 or 10 years.
The walk to the stage/ampitheater is convenient. The music and dances of the people who have settled the islands was nicely staged. The Smith Family should receive high compliments for their ability to service many people in a positive manner.

I would not pay a nickle to do this tour again. My 7th time since 96. Downward spiral and now it is simply sad to see the place so hammered. I rate the food first, 5 star, the best on the island. Mr. Smith, a legend, a comic, and a very hard worker and it was so nice to have him run the dinner. The food lines all run within 20 minutes when the place is sold out. Bartenders, hands down the best. Open bar but no line and you drink as much as you want.
Facility..bad news. Ran down. Same stack of broken concrete there for years. 2 broken backhoes sitting by lake leaking diesel fuel. Same stack of dirty broken plastic water pipes sitting there. Why not throw in dumpster?? The goat farm, disgrace. Filled with trash. One hour, 2 humans could pick up and have pasture looking good. Signs on trees explaining name of plants etc..all faded, cannot read, how difficult would it be to computer print paper and plastic coat new sign??
The show..Omisgosh it is horrible. Sound system does not work properly. Male dancers are totally out of sync. Female dancers have visible Harley tattoos, hard to explain to kids as this is not native at all. Fire dancer was good. Dragon scene a joke as the dragon suit is full of holes and worn out, same 2 years ago. There is no scrip to follow or story, just a bunch of folks doing their own dance.
Paint??? Not in many moons. Everything run down. Chairs in dining room are so dirty and worn out we had to swap them. A steam cleaner on a sunny day could clean them all. Not fun to sit in dried up macaroni noodles.
I quietly voiced my opinions to a familiar worker that used to be a dancer in the show. She reports that the son will be taking over management soon but is currently in Africa on another project. Looks like they are getting tour groups that prepay and do not expect to return. I am a return customer who will sadly never return.

Food was great! We liked the tram tour showing the grounds. The dancing was very good. Disliked the crowds very much. To many people push through .
