We got married here and it was a dream come true. We got married at the fern grotto and took a boat ride down the river while listening to hawaiian music. So romantic. It was beautiful getting married underneath the caves and ferns. Everyone here is so nice and supplied everything for us. We loved the photographer and the officient. Love the lua and show afterwards. Love this place!

We opted for the show only so it would be unfair to be too harsh based on the performances only. The dancers were enthusiastic for the most part and some were quite good, but the whole production struck me as over done - tried to be all things to all people (including some silliness with a two person lion dragon). There were bits from multiple (not just polynesian as at most luau) cultures. We have been to a few luau - and I doubt any are truly authentic, but this is way over the top. Having said that, the price was fair - $15 each - and we certainly didn't feel cheated; it just seemed tacky or cheesy. If you want to see some hula and don't care about any authenticity, this is not a bad deal.

Like most of the more popular luaus, this is a very large and commercialized operation. There are a number of comments that it is very crowded and that is very true. However, the large crowds are handled well and it's not as if you're battling for space in an over-crowded environment.

We arrived at 4:30 and entered with several others. A short tour on their tram gave a good description of the various plants, trees and wildlife on the property. As others have also said, the grounds are beautiful.

Following the tram ride, there's a brief break before they pull the pig from the in-ground oven. A good description of the cooking process accompanies the removal and the whole thing is then followed by the guests being seated. If you're not 100% determined to see the removal process, this is a good time to go grab a seat before the others. Those seated furthest away are served first so we took seats at the very back. There is a stage with performers but it's not necessary to see them and being a little distance away made for a quieter seat. Again, if you want to eat first, sit furthest away!

Dinner is plentiful and plenty of choices. Several different meats, salads, fruits, etc. Unlimited drinks and yes... the Mai Tais do lack some of the alcohol you would normally find in a bar. They are not watered, just less alcohol. Plenty of other options including beer are also available.

Following dinner, everyone moves to the theater area where the dance show is put on. If you eat first, you can go there ahead of time and again get the best seats :)

The show is pretty commercialized but again, it is geared for the tourists...

Overall, it's worth it to go see a luau. We've been to the Sheraton luau and now Smith and we probably won't go to another but no regrets having attended!
