This resort is located right by the airport and centrally located so you can best see everything the island has to offer. The pool is beautiful and the view of the harbor is gorgeous. Our room was very spacious, clean, and the balcony nice for relaxing at the end of the day. The buffet breakfast is great if you don't have time to visit a local restaurant. Dining options and shopping are extremely limited but within easy walking distance; I turned my rental car in a day early and took advantage of the free hotel shuttle to the airport. My nieces loved the pool slide and the oldest one loved the sand volleyball.

This is one beautiful hotel. It was originally a Westin but bought by Marriott after the 1992 hurricane. It is designed like no other Marriott property at which we have stayed. The hotel is half traditional hotel and half timeshare, or thereabout. We have owned here since 1995. I cannot describe the grounds with any degree of justice but will point out a few things. The huge lagoon in the middle of the hotel complex is lush with flora/fauna, koi, black & white swans, nene, and one talkative show-off parrot. We come every year and on each trip I notice something in the artwork or landscape I haven't noticed before. The rooms are in the process of being modernized and are well appointed. The staff and service are outstanding. The pool area is unlike anywhere else. We enjoy the "cocoons" and/or cabanas set in the middle and at strategic points. The beach area is beautiful with all sorts of beach and water activities. The views are magnificent from anywhere on the property. It is close by a championship golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus which has some of the most beautiful golf holes you will ever see. I could go on and on. This is one great hotel.

Room Tip: The ocean views are magnificent but even the non-ocean views offer some of the best scenery going.

We stayed over the Christmas holiday at this very nice resort. We were very happy with nearly every aspect. Had a family of 5 (2 parents with children late teen to low twenties) in 2 separate rooms. Prior to arrival we were contacted by a concierge to explore our interests and to offer an upgrade. We elected a modest upgrade and received very good information about local activities and restaurants prior to arrival. The resort has obviously been around for a while, but the grounds are manicured and the rooms appear to have been recently updated. The entire resort was spotless. The pool is amazing and the beach is on par with others in Hawaii. All beaches are shared with the community and there was a relaxed atmosphere all around. Many people from the surrounding area came to share and were very friendly. If you want an exclusive beach then you may want something other than Hawaii. We enjoyed something a little more diverse.

The beach is on a protected bay so wave heights are lower in front of the resort. Makes for good paddle-boarding. Further down the beach it rolls a bit more for those who want to surf a little. Food in the resort was quite good, both at the buffet and from the beach-front bar and grill. Two adjacent restaurants include Duke's (with a casual bar downstairs and a more pricey option upstairs. We preferred the casual part. If you go there - treat yourself to a special dessert.

There is a convenience store (ABC) just down the beach to purchase food and beverages, as well as souveniers.

You can self park or pay for valet, but they charge nearly as much for self park (but you dont have to wait for your vehicle. I found the parking chage excessive. There is also a resort fee to anticipate. You dont get much for the fee really but it makes the room price look a little lower I guess.

The hotel also arranged for a local congregation to hold a Christmas eve service, which we greatly appreciated. Listening to familiar music sung in Hawaiian was a special treat.

There is a luau on site which was very intimate and nice. We have been to the larger buffet-style luau on the island but this was less over-blown and convenient. We opted to just attend the show. The plated dinner option seemed over-priced for the value.

Very accessible to the airport and a good launching pad to explore the East and North of the island. Prepare to be active on Kauai, or you will miss its special beauty.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view over the pool.

My family and I (8 adults, 1 child) stayed at this resort for 12 days over Christmas 2013 and NYE. The front desk service was very friendly and helpful upon arrival and throughout the entire stay. We wanted our rooms at least in the same tower as they weren't to begin with, but the staff made sure by the second day we were all in the same vicinity which was really nice. Everyone in our group thought the beds were VERY comfortable and were happy with the rooms. Our first room was on the ground floor and didn't have a view at all, however it was close to the pool and a bit bigger (probably good for if you have children). The next day we moved closer to our other family members rooms, on the 7th floor in the Kahili tower. We immediately had a view of the ocean, the room was a bit smaller, but still nice. No complaints! The grounds were big and beautiful. The pool was huge, there was a kids slide which my nephew loved, there were 3 communal bbq's which my family took advantage of 2 or 3 times. The beach is nice, the resort sits on a bay surrounded by a couple of mountains so it is good for children to play in as there aren't big waves. The beach has 3 volleyball nets and you can rent a volleyball from the hotel for $5 a day, they go early so if you want one get down there early to rent one. The nets were always busy with families playing, and randoms forming games. It was fun to play and watch. Food was average, never disappointed, but nothing out of this world. Although it was pricey, and drinks were very pricey. 12$ for a pina colada. We usually ordered lunch from the pool bar, and ate breakfast at the continental bar which had lots of selection and was better/cheaper than the sit down breakfast in our opinion! 25 minute drive to Poipu and 45 minute drive to the north, so it was fairly central. Also, there was a great fitness gym with yoga/stretching studio attached. Overall, a great trip, beautiful resort, good service, we'd all recommend it to couples or families visiting Kauai.

Room Tip: Ground floor may be better for children, my dad was always nervous about my 5 year old nephew hangin...

Just completed a week at this fabulous resort. Loved the ability to swim in the ocean or the pool, given the whim of the moment. Friendly, welcoming staff always ready to smile and help. Comfortable, spacious rooms with beautiful beach views.

Several mornings, I started the day by joining the Yoga on the Beach class. Instructor Joy had the ability to tailor each move to the varying skill levels of individuals within the class -- quite a talent! So glad I took advantage of this great way to start the day. My back feels better than it has in years.

Our biggest challenge of the stay? Convincing our 11-year old son to agree to go off property to see other parts of the island. But who can blame him? With a wonderful sandy beach at the ready, a huge pool, lovely tropical landscaping, multiple restaurant offerings and a great Marriott team, it would be very easy to spend every moment at the resort. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Call the hotel and let them know your preference. If you are doing a time share trade, you'll g...

My husband and I spent two weeks at this resort in December 2013. This hotel/timeshare has so much to offer. We last stayed at this resort in 2012. The grounds are stunning, overall, the staff is very nice and accommodating, and we had excellent meals at the restaurants on the hotel's grounds. Try the prime rib and crab buffet at Kukui's...wow! We've never seen crab that size and it was absolutely delicious. Loved the food at Duke's (and the ocean view is spectacular!) and at the poolside grill...speaking of the pool, we think it's the nicest one on the island! The grounds are really magnificent and it's enjoyable just to walk around and look at the koi pond (kids can feed the fish each morning), and check out some of the other animals you may find on the grounds (there's sometimes a bird and we noticed that the Marriott has adopted a few cats as well :o) We stayed in a newly renovated one-bedroom (they said we were the third people to stay in it), and it was beautiful...very nice and clean. The hotel is renovating all around, so when booking, I would request to be put into a newer room. The areas that are not renovated do look pretty rough and I wouldn't choose to stay in one of the old rooms, but they're working on it so that's why I gave them an excellent rating. I would also recommend the Monday night luau show which was reasonably priced around $35 for adults...it's a slice of local flavor with the MC who is a relative of Don Ho. This hotel has a great central location on the island. All in all, this is a great place to stay and you can't go wrong!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been renovated!

Stayed over Christmas break in a timeshare rented through redweek. Beautiful view from ocean front two bedroom room, also stayed an extra night in two hotel style rooms. The timeshare rooms are much larger and have a microwave/dishwasher and utensils/plates. The resort was crowded with families on winter break. Most days able to find beach/pool chairs, but people claiming their chairs early in AM. Service was very friendly and helpful. A couple of decent restaurants within walking distance. Would definately stay again, with children. I would not recommend for honeymooners or people without children, unless you choose a time not on school break. Recommend timeshare over hotel room for the extra space and cheaper rates. Hotel rooms could use a good scrub and more detailed cleaning service.

Room Tip: HIgher floors, ocean view.
