We ventured over to Kalapaki Joe's as it is walking distance from the Marriott. We have gone there 3 separate nights and found some interesting consistency. First, 2/3rds of the crowd is local, second, they are always understaffed, lastly, their fresh fish is surprisingly good as the rest of the menu is average. We had Hebi in A Mac Nut coating, Seared Ahi, and Hibachi style Opah. All were good portions and very good. Their burgers were ok but the Beach hut across the street does them better and cheaper.
Friendly atmosphere and if you can have patience with the service (again, way understaffed), they are friendly, drinks are a good pour, and the food is ok. Lots of locals with whom we are able to strike up a conversation and learn many hidden secrets of the island. Always had a good time here.
