We loved our horseback ride with Bronson as our guide. We had a small group, which really made the tour fun and personal. The horses were all very friendly and easy to ride, even for beginners. We did the two-hour ride and the path you ride on is just gorgeous. You go through trails looking out over amazing mountain vistas, then down through the sand to the ocean, which is such a gorgeous place to ride. The ride is a relaxing slow pace, and two hours is just the right amount of time. We were staying on the North Shore and it was well worth the drive down to Poipu to see this side of the island on horseback!

This was the only onshore excursion we booked before leaving on our Pride of America cruise and it was money well spent. From our port pick up to drop off we were treated very well. The actual ride was about 90 minutes, and the whole trip, including a scenic side trip on the way back to the ship was about 4 hours. The horses were so well trained, our group of 6 had a great ride through the Maha'ulepu wilderness area with wonderful scenes along the way. Safety was a priority, which was good as we were all either novices or hadn't ridden in a long while. Only reason for not being an excellent review was that we weren't told before there would be saddle bags for water bottles etc, and the drinks machine at the stables was empty. Our guide was so good, even went back for a dropped camera. He lined up our horses and took photos for us. If we ever go back to Kauai this will again be on my "to do" list

We've done horseback riding on Maui and Oahu, and this is the best ride we've done in Hawaii. Two hours is about the right length. The setting is fabulous: ocean views, mountains and riding on the beach is great. Small groups of about 6 per guide is good to provide individualized attention. Our guide Cody was the best. He even took one of our group into a cave so that they could take pictures. Spots where films were made were highlighted. The horses were very gentle. Some riders in our time slot were as young as about 8, but they said they had had riders as young as 5-6. Highly recommended.

My wife, 9 year old daughter, and I were there just this last week and we had a great time! It was actually my daughter's favorite attraction. It's about $100 per person, but worth it for the fun ride and beautiful views. The guide was friendly and attentive to everyone in our group, and gave a couple of riding tips to my daughter along the way. Although it is advertised as a two hour ride, I really think that varies depending on the horses, trail, and weather. We had good luck with all three and we were done in about 90 minutes. The trail can get a bit dusty, so sunglasses are a good idea and the red dirt can get your clothes quite dirty and dusty, so don't wear anything you don't mind getting dirty. Make sure to take a camera with you since there are so many beautiful views and the guide will snap a family picture for you in a great spot! One last thing, wearing a hat is a good idea if it's sunny like when we went, just make sure you have a sting or strap that goes under your chin to keep it on since it is also a bit windy.

If you are wanting to go riding while in Kauai, CJM Stables is the place to go. I have been there twice and the ride is always great. The guide we had was Russell and he is very good at his job and knows a lot of information about the Island. The first time we went we did the picnic ride, which is a little longer than the last ride we took. The views are spectacular!! We had a 10 year old with us and she did just fine. If you have ridden horses before, or are a novice, they provide horses that are well trained for trail riding. I highly recommend this Stable, and Russell is the perfect guide!
