The Koloa Fish Market is a great place to pick up fresh fish, Poke and (best of all) Seared Ahi Tuna. It is strictly take out, but if you want to make a great salad or sandwich, the Ahi Tuna, is lightly breaded and obviously flash cooked to just cook the fist 1/8 inch, leaving the large rounds perfectly uncooked through most of the delicious Ahi meat.

So I am a vegetarian, so all I had was the macaroni salad which was great! Hubby had the sautéed ono and sautéed ahi and he loved it! The establishment is clean and does not smell like fish - that made me happy... :-)

You have to try the Poki, mixed sashimi (raw fish) in a variety of flavor mixtures (wasabi, avocado, etc) - it was absolutely fantastic, tasted like the fish were swimming in the ocean that morning, so fresh. Prices were reasonable as well. Best we've had in the islands.

I think this place is hit-or-miss. Their fresh fish is good but always ask to taste the poke before you buy. we bought poke there and when we opened it, it smelled fishy - a strong odor. No one got sick . . . but fresh fish shouldn't smell. Better to be safe than puking on your vacation!

My husband is Asian (Chinese). He loved Koloa Fish Market (I loved it too!) We ordered take out from there three times during our week on Kauai. Excellent local food. Great prices.
