“Hawaiian Ohana- Banana Joes is great!”

Banana Joe's Fruitstand
Ranked #1 of 8 Shopping in Kilauea
Attraction details

We just returned from our third trip to Kauai and each visit we make sure that we stop at Banana Joes Fruitstand for some apple banana's, smoothies, locally made roasted nut mixtures, and wonderful granola mixes for breakfast. The owners are always friendly and helpful; we especially find the rustic plantation house part of the attraction. For the past 12 years "Joe's" has not changed and it is one reason we always make sure we stop and say aloha and mahalo.

When we were there (twice in two days) they had "smoothies" from 3 different fruits and also banana "frosties". They do change the fruits from day to day, and they said that some of the fruits used in the drinks are grown there on site. The smoothies were maybe 2-3 different sizes up to about a 12 or 16 ouncer and frostys were one size only which was maybe a 9 ounce size.

The prices might seem a bit much at first(considering the sizes), BUT, when you consider that they are made with fruit grown directly on site, and they are full of fruit and not thinned out with a bunch of ice or water or whatever, and taste so good, I think they're well worth the price as a tasty treat, far more so than most shave ice for example.

The smoothie (of 3 tropical fruits) was thicker than an Odwalla (but not softserve thick), very sweet and quite refreshing. The frosty was thicker, like soft-serve ice cream in consistency, and was delicious--sweet, but not over the top sweet--and full of banana goodness.

We will probably stop at Banana Joe's again many times in the future since its location makes it convenient for anyone headed to or from the north side of the island.

PS: Banana Joe's also sells a lot of fresh veggies and fruits that look good along with Anahola Granola and other similar type foods. Also, check out the new architectural landscape ornaments store that's in the back of the parking lot, they have a lot of neat stuff as well.

The smoothies there are pretty good, though it wasn't as cold as I thought a smoothie should be. I had a better smoothie at the Beach House restaurant if you happen to go there... they called it the Beach House Smoothie.

We did buy some good apple bananas there, and they also sell Hawaiian fudge, but I didn't get any.
