“Contagious enthusiasm”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

The two guides who conducted our tour of the botanical and sculpture gardens extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic They seemed to really love their jobs, which made our visit all the more enjoyable. The whole park reflected that this work has been a labor of love for those involved. A special highlight for us was the albatross nesting area. We also liked that the gift shop had lots of interesting items in a wide price range.

“Variety of tours available”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

We took two tours here -- the 1.5 hour walk through the 11 original acres of gardens and 3 hour 'stroll and ride' tour. I think there are at least three other types of tours on offer -- including one that is designed for children. We watched part of two of those child-centered tours and it looked like the children were totally engaged.

We had been warned it would be buggy and to use bug spray. Between the two of us we didn't see a single 'bug' other than a few spiders, so don't be put off by the warnings! We loved the fact that there are a lot of sculptures throughout the gardens. They were each chosen with great care by the founder of the gardens -- and in many cases specifically commissioned.

You can not just wander the gardens on your own. You must be part of a group tour at all times. Which is a sadness to us as we are passionate, but amateur, photographers and would have liked to have a chance to wander and dally at will to take photographs. They are only open Tuesday - Friday and each tour has a maximum of 8 people. So reserve ahead! On the longer tour they do provide for bathroom breaks three times in the course of the tour. The terrain you walk on is quite easy. I don't know if there is a way you can find out who your guide will be when you make a reservation, but we found our guide Helen to be extremely knowledgeable.

“Amazing garden and nature tours”
Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

A nonprofit sanctuary run mostly by volunteers. Recently opened to the public for guided tours only. A must see if you enjoy rare plants, birds and other tropical wildlife. Went on the bird watching tour today and saw and photographed rare nesting and courting Albatross. Also saw whales breeching from the same observation platform. Walked a hidden beach and collected treasures. Up close, rare experience of viewing nests. Plant life is incredible! They also have a children's garden and a wonderful children's guided tour. Mobile carts on some tours and others are all hiking. Something for all nature lovers. Gift shop is also very nice. The gardens also have awesome bronze statues throughout.
Hints: 1) call ahead for reservations. 2). Bring your camera. 3) take your time and enjoy the serenity and beauty of each garden area. 4) look for orchids in the trees 5) bring your children to the children's tour, stand back And let them have fun with the guides' assistance. There are special areas for children 6) the other tours are mostly for adults and older children. 7) yes, it is a little expensive, think of it as making a donation to a non profit sanctuary, and getting a guided tour.

“Much more than a "3 Hour Tour"”
Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

60,000 trees, more than a hundred sculptures and 2 dozen albatrosses with unbelievable views were a highlight of our vacation. The guides, Dick and Georgia, were most knowledgable and friendly on our titular 3 hour wild and formal garden stroll and ride that lasted almost 4 1/2 hours. At $50/head it is expensive but worth it.

“Very Enjoyable, will do it again”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

It really is amazing with what they have done with the property.
Whatever the season, expect to be entranced as you tour our gardens, by foot or on board one of our covered, motorized carriages. Na ‘Āina Kai offers only guided tours which are conducted by knowledgeable volunteer docents. Depending upon the tour you choose, you will travel to one or more of the diverse destinations. Soon you will understand why we say that each garden, indeed every spot along the way, has its own personality and mood, and seems worlds away from wherever your journey to Na ‘Āina Kai began.
