“Lovely spot!!!!”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

The location of the wildlife refuge was beautiful on the northern most tip of Kauai. There are many photo ops of the crashing waves against the rocky and dramatic shoreline. If you are into birding, this place is an absolute must. The lighthouse is a peaceful and magical place!!!

Rent a car a see the light house at the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge park. These will be some of the best pictures you can take on Kauai.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Worth the $5! Come back at sunset and park your car with everyone else along the road leading in to the lighthouse to see a beautiful summer sunset over the field of horses and swaying palms (photo attached). Priceless!

“Top near-free sightseeing spot with birds & lighthouse history”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

For $5 you're admitted to stroll into the native wildlife area and use free binoculars to view the shoreline, the sea, frigate birds and various narrow-tailed birds soaring overhead, nesting across the promitory, or in nests carved into the soft ground seltered by bushes within the refuge. The blue-green water in the cove is amazing, and there were hundreds of birds sleeping or nesting with their young. The recently refurbished lighthouse is nice but you can't go inside it, however the building adjacent gives details about its history and contribution and that it's one of the larger clamshell lens lights found in the Pacific. You are also able to see pictures of the types of birds frequenting the area, but it would be preferable if they gave you a sheet with sketches of the various species as you walk with your binoculars. It's a short self-tour very worth the time, and the small gift shop has some unique gifts and nice selection. Very good budget stop while on Kauai, but they don't open until 10:00 am so schedule a stop while on the way to beach or after an early snorkeling trip to nearby Anini beach (great for Summer snorkeling).

“Not to miss!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We took a day trip to the north shore and the first place we visited was the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge and Lighthouse. What a beautiful place!! I believe this was the most northern place you can visit in Hawaii. Cool to watch all the birds and the views were just spectacular. They have binoculars available for you to use. Nice volunteers around to share what they know and answer questions. We really enjoyed it there. Would love to go back someday in the winter so we can see the whales!
