“The lighthouse and wildlife refuge”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

A bit of a drive off the highway and into the parking lot, but amazing views and excellent docents, and explanatory exhibits. They even have electric carts in which they can transport people with limited walking ability so one doesn't miss out. And free!

“Great view of beach and coastline”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

Since this is the northernmost point of Kauai, you get the best view of coastlines on both sides. The view is fantastic. You can see also the Secret Beach from here. Even the lighthouse is under remodeling, we still had great time here. It is definitely worth the visit.

The lookout point before you reach the entrance gives you a great view of the lighthouse and the ocean below.

“This is a wonderful tour and a beautiful perspective of Kauai”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Until you reach this refuge, you think Kauai is about the beaches and the relaxation. Then, you discover the nature conservation area of a multitude of species of flora and fauna that makes this area one of the most important research labs in the world. The views are amazing.

“Beautiful views and an aviary education”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Though the actual lighthouse was closed for renovation, we still enjoyed our visit. The outdoor binoculars were trained on a monk seal that could be seen lounging on the rocks; we viewed several turtles in the surf below; the knowledgable docents educated us on the shore birds that were nesting under the foliage along the walkways. This was a nice way to spend a morning. Don't forget to stop for refreshments at Banana Joe's fruit stand on the way.

“Amazing refuge and lighthouse”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

You can't see the lighthouse from the road. So park and walk in. You will be amazed at the birds in the refuge area. Free binoculars help you zoom in. The coastline views are amazing too. The lighthouse features a continuous loop video of the 'old' days to the present. Preservation efforts are ongoing and quite remarkable. Take advantage of the gift shop which has some excellent books in stock.
