Really disappointed in our stay at the Courtyard. Thank GOD we only booked two nights. Our April 6 2019 confirmation of our booking makes zero mention of construction. Then May 1, 2019, I got another confirmation where in a small box at the bottom it mentioned the construction.

I was stunned when we got there and saw the condition they were still operating in. The hotel is under MAJOR construction... hallways have been constructed with drywall leading you into tight corridors, blocking you out from what normally would be the rest of the hotel... the reception is basically fold-out tables in a conference room they’ve set up.... the “restaurant” is a similar situation. We were still charged a resort fee which is absurd. I asked what Marriott was doing to compensate for this mess and the employee said “nothing.”

I wasn’t going to leave a review because our ROOM was thankfully very nice and comfortable, even though we faced a pile of dirt in our balcony. However, the last straw for me was when we were given two vouchers for “two free mai tais” upon check in, which we NEVER used, and on my credit card statement, the hotel had charged us the $7.00 for “two mai tais.” Although when I called it was immediately reimbursed, I was really flabbergasted at a hotel potentially charging customers for things they were claiming were “free” or otherwise included in the daily resort fee.

This place shouldn’t be open right now. I understand Marriott is trying to minimize its costs due to the construction and can not afford to completely close the property, but it really should represent that this is at BEST a “hostel-level” property at the moment and the prices should reflect that.

Aloha mmgallo1,

Thank you for your candid review of you experience. We understand you frustrations and apologize for the inconveniences of our renovation.

We are pleased to know that the NEW guest room accommodations appealed to you. The team has worked tirelessly to complete this portion of renovation and our guest sentiment reflects their efforts nicely.

Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to welcome you back to Kaua'i in the future.

The property is undergoing MAJOR construction. It began in October 2019. We made our reservation in January...they did not inform us until a couple of weeks ago, that they were renovating, and the pool might be involved. It is totally awful. No pool, views toward the ocean include the dirt pile that was a pool... Cancel and re-book at another property.

Stunning ocean views and courteous service but no amenities. No pool, no outside dining or drink service, and no spa. Everything is closed for construction. One inside dining area with limited menu and could not get a tropical drink because temporary location has no blender. Door to room has a large gap so you literally hear everything outside your room. Clean spacious room, would have booked other Marriott if aware of conditions. Location is perfect for sightseeing.

Stayed here for one night upon arrival in Kauai before we could check into our condo. The entire place is under remodel - lobby, hallways, restaurant, bar, and pool. The restaurant/bar is in a basement meeting room which was likely the only space available. I understand the need to remodel, but the current amount construction made the stay far from ideal and made us grateful we only stayed one night. Prices are still high - given the environment -and the balconies are tiny. If you can spend a little more and stay elsewhere until the remodel is completed, do so.

We loved our ocean front room which was already renovated. Highlight was a sleeping seal right outside our window. Our room was renovated and lovely. No pool, although sharing with a resort down the road during construction. The Paddle Room where meals were served was filthy though and that is not excusable to construction. O. The plus side, great $3.50 Mai Tais and friendly staff.
