“Peace and Quiet”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

We looked at almost every hotel/resort on Kauai before we decided on the Coral Reef Resort...we are so happy with our choice! George, Ronda and Kapua were so welcoming and friendly - they made us feel like house guests! If you want peace and quiet with a comfortable atmosphere AND don't want to fight the crowds (i.e. packed elevators and lobbies) then this is the place for you. We spent our honeymoon here - 10 night of pure relaxation and a mere 100 ft. to the beach - again, no crowds. A plus...walking distance to shops and restaurants (local food too!).
An extra plus...the best shaved ice from Hee Fat General store.

FYI - we stayed on the 2nd floor in one of their king suites with a jacuzzi tub and ocean front view/balcony...beach towels, chairs and coolers are complimentary and you can rent a bike for $5 a day! Continental breakfast was good - lots of fresh fruit, specially blended juice by George and a variety of pastries!

Again, if you are looking for peace and quiet we highly recommend the Coral Reef Resort...we'll definitely be back!

This water front hotel probably deserve a 4 star instead of a three if we didn't have to chase down our own toiletries every morning, if the maids did a better job of cleaning. In fact, it took them 7 minutes to "clean " our room. All that was done was to make our bed, empty garbage and put towels on racks. The tiny beach in front of the hotel is not really for swimming. Breakfast is minimal but coffee is great. Being awaken by chickens every morning is the norm since the whole island is full of chicken running loose. The front desk staff is very courteous. However, we were given a room on the ground floor instead of the second floor which we requested months in advance.

Room Tip: Demand a room on the second floor, if you stay here.

Our stay couldn't have been better and George, Rhonda and Kapua couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I talked to them several times before we arrived and they gave us great advice on things to do and really went above and beyond. They were like family and we loved talking to them at breakfast every morning. The food was great and changed a little each day and the fruit and juice were especially delicious! Anything we asked them they would help us with and they gave us great lessons on the Hawaiian culture. Our two teenagers loved them too, and they were so good to the kids. Our housekeeping girl was also very nice and helpful. Our room and view were outstanding and a good value. We hope they don't change a thing. We hated to leave and can't wait to go back! Mahalo and A hui hou kakou!

Room Tip: Oceanview, second floor.

The hotel location is great and the rooms are also good. Unfortunately, some of the staff is not so great.
This is specifically about the two ladies who sit at the reception in the morning. The other two guys Joseph and George were very courteous and nice.
When you walk in to the reception, you expect to be greeted with a "Hello" or "Good morning". No such courtesy here.
Our room phone was not working, and I brought that to the attention of the management in the evening, it should have been fixed within a few hours. But they didn't fix it by the time we checked out the next day.

We got a ocean front king on the second floor. Well worth it, we LOVED it. We slept with the balcony door open to hear the waves. It was very peaceful. Although I will say Kauai has wild chickens running around and you will hear them early in the morning if you have a window open. But there was no traffic sounds which was nice. The breakfast they provided consisted of English muffins, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea but it was served in the lobby. It was good but hard to carry everything to the room or outdoors to eat. We ended up eating at restaurants most of the time. The staff was friendly. The parking lot was small but we always found a spot.

The room was clean, however the maid service could have been better. The light in the bathroom burnt out the first night and the maid never noticed. We had to tell the person behind the desk a few days later to get fixed. Must have been tough cleaning the bathroom without light. Our first full day there we got home after spending the day around town to find the maid never made it to our room. Another day we were relaxing on the balcony and she wanted to clean our room right away, stating it was her last room of the day. Another time she took our face cloths and did not replace them.

Room Tip: go for the 2nd floor for more privacy, first floor is ground level and because of the bike path alot...

We were walk-ins and right away, Rhonda and George made shure we would be satisfied. Spacious room with all the amenities, the view is amazing. We had access to daily beach towels, beach chairs, cooler to take with us, wherever we decided to go. The bicyle path is right there and they let us borrow the bicycles. It's walking distance to a bunch of restaurants and bars and shops.
We spent the entire week there, great central location to visit the island.
One little thing, is that the breakfast is pretty much always the same.

The location is right on the beach. Very pretty view. We just fell in love with the staff. George and Rhonda make you feel like family. Every morning we had a nice lite breakfast with great coffee. The rooms are very beautiful with nice furnishings. Can't wait to return to the Coral Reef Hotel.
