I've been going to Kauai for 30 years and visit the Coconut Marketplace each time I go. The Coconut Marketplace used to be a bustling center of restaurants and shops and even had a theater. Sadly, time and the recession have not been kind. New owners bought it a few years ago and did a facelift, but there are still many vacant storefronts. It's so dead on Sunday nights that the shops almost all close early. What's left is mostly good; some shops with unique items not found everywhere, some good restaurants (mainly in the small locations in the center). The theaters are long gone. They have a free hula show on Wednesdays, which is fun and brings in some crowds. They really need to fill more of the storefronts. If you drive by at night you may think it's closed because the lighting in the parking lot is rather dim. Hope this center can revive itself and restore it's glory days.
