“Great pool, family friendly, conveniently located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We spent six fabulous nights at Waipouli Beach Resort in a 2bd/3ba unit we rented privately through VRBO. Very spacious and comfortable, with a double-master setup, gourmet kitchen, full-size washer & dryer and lanai off the living room. We spent most of one day playing in the pool, which has a serpentine pool (not exactly a lazy river), 2 slides and a sand-bottom, zero-entry kids play area. There is a restaurant on-site, but we did not visit it as there are so many great restaurants in the surrounding area & Kapa'a. We had a mountain view room on the 4th floor. I somewhat agree with a previous reviewer's comment on the "mountain view" -- our room overlooked the parking lot and the shopping center across the street (which happens to be in front of Sleeping Giant mountain), but being on the 4th floor minimized traffic noise and allowed us to see over the shopping center, so we found it a good trade-off given the cost savings vs. pool or beach view. The resort is convenient to both the north and south shores, and close to both parts of the Kauai Bike Path. There is a small beach on site, but it is rocky and therefore not ideal for swimming -- plenty of better beaches nearby. I would not hesitate to stay at Waipouli Beach Resort again!

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor for best views, less noise

My husband, daughter and I rented unit B-301 at this resort back in Sept. 2012 from a private owner through the REMAX management company. Finally, our vacation arrived on June 16, 2013! We live in GA and were flying through Dallas to Honolulu and then took an island hopper to Lihue. After a VERY long travel day, we finally got our rental car and arrived at Waipouli Beach Resort. We had no trouble locating building "B", but quickly became rather confused when we couldn't locate an elevator in that building. No one told us that building "B" does not have its own elevator. We finally figured out that we had to go into building "C" and use that elevator, go to the third floor and go through the connecting hallway to building "B". We finally got into our room (The management company had already emailed us the entrance code to the unit.) at about 9:30 PM or so, local time. Upon entering the unit and exploring our home-away-from-home, we discovered that the carpet in the doorway to the master bedroom was soaking wet! At this point, we had been awake for over 24 hours and were exhausted. So, we decided to just crash and deal with it in the morning.

The following morning (Mon., June 17th), we notified Remax of the situation, thinking that they would send someone with a shopvac to dry out the carpet. In the meantime, we went out for breakfast and the grocery store and headed out to do some sightseeing. While we were on the north shore seeing the sights there, Cyrila, from Remax, called to say that the inspection of our unit showed that the AC condensation drip pan had malfunctioned; causing the water to overflow onto the carpet in the MBR. She said that it would take several days to do the repairs and dry out the carpet and that the unit would be unlivable during that time. So, we were going to have to be moved to another unit (C-301)...but, only until Friday when we would have to move back to unit B-301 because there were other tenants scheduled to arrive in C-301 that day and the repairs in our unit would be completed by then. Well, that meant that we would have to take time out of our Hawaiian vacation to move twice! When we explained that we really preferred not to have to move twice, she offered us a rental home in Princeville that we could use for the whole week and only have to move once. So, we went to look at it to see if that would be an acceptable alternative. The house was beautiful and located on a golf course and within walking distance of the Hanalei Resort, but there were no amenities like those offered at Waipouli Beach Resort. Also, Princeville is not centrally located to the rest of the island. So, we told her that, even though we did not want to move twice, we preferred to be centrally located and enjoy the amenities of the resort. So, in the end, even though we had the added hassle of having to move twice, we stayed at the Waipouli Beach Resort and moved between units B-301 and C-301. Cyrila and I texted numerous times during the time that we were on Kauai and she was very understanding and accommodating. She also told us that we would be refunded one night's rent and given a $75 credit at the Oasis restaurant on the Waipoulid Beach Resort premesis! Although we never met in person and there were a couple of tense moments, Cyrila was extremely professional and sympathetic to our situation. In the end, we feel that we were duly compensated for the inconvenience of our situation.

Now....as for the resort, itself....
It was gorgeous! The grounds were beautifully landscaped and maintained. The pool area is huge and rather unconventional in its design. It snaked around through the landscaping and included waterfalls, slides and a small grotto. There were two jacuzzis with sand bottoms and a small children's pool; also with a sand bottom. The lobby opens out to a large koi pond and the pool area. There is a small building with exercise equipment and several areas with grills for cookouts. As noted earlier, there is a restaurant, Oasis, between the pool area and the beach. The beach is very pretty, but not really swimable, as the strong surf and rocks near the shore make it too dangerous. We did observe a monk seal one day, though, who had come up to rest/sleep. If you get up early enough, you can go down to the beach and see a beautiful sunrise, too.

As for the units...as I said, we stayed in two (B-301 and C-301) which were identical in their layout. The only difference was the decor and furnishings, which, I'm sure, was a reflection of the owner's taste. Both units were very comfortable and adequately furnished. The kitchens have industrial-sized, high-end appliances. Both of our units had parking lot views, which was not a problem for us since we didn't spend that much time inside.

Aside from our issues, needed repairs and moving, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Waipouli Beach Resort and we would definitely stay there again and recommend it. It has a great central location and is close to shopping and restaurants in the Kapa'a area. We even walked to dinner a couple of nights! Drive time is about the same to both the north and south shores. We ended up making two trips in each direction; one sightseeing and one swim/snorkeling trip to each one. This was mine and husband's fourth trip to Hawai'i and our third to Kaua'i (It was our daughter's first trip to Hawai'i.). We have stayed in Princeville on the north shore and Lawai Beach on the south shore and now in Kapa'a on the east coast. Waipouli Beach Resort is definitely the most convenient if you are trying to see the entire island.

Great resort with modern well appointed rooms and gourmet kitchens. Much better value than a hotel for families (but maid service is extra). We had a large 2 bedroom unit with pull-out sofa bed (uncomfortable) and 2-1/2 bathrooms. Large pool and sand bottom spas are well kept and were not overly crowded when we were there. Nice beach for walking and sitting but rough/rocky for swimming. Good oceanfront restaurant on property called Oasis with local seafood and great mai tai's. Central location in Kapa'a near stores, town, and easy access to airport.

Room Tip: Choose ocean or partial ocean (overlooking pool) view, otherwise you may be looking at parking lot o...

The Waipouli is a beautiful resort. Our room was I think the best one in the resort. We had the 4th floor corner over looking the beach and the garden grounds. We had 2 large bedrooms with a large balcony off both bedrooms and from the living room. The pool was great! We have 2 children a 14 year old and a 9 year old. They offer 2 slides in the pool area, waterfalls, spa's ( 1 for adults only) and a beach entry pool. The restaurant was very good and offered fresh fish each day. We actually ate there twice. We went to Po'ipu beach and went snorkeling, swimming and body surfing. On the way back from there we stopped at Wailua falls. A must see. Another day we drove to the other side of the island to Ke'e beach. Perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There is a trail that you can hike for about 11 miles. About a half mile up you can take pictures of the most beautiful views. ( So don't forget your camera.) You can't go to Hawaii without going to a Luau.
We went to Luau Kalamaku. The kids loved it. The cost per person is all you can eat and drink with an amazing show. The only bad thing I have to say is you couldn't swim in the ocean right in front of our hotel. ( lot's of rocks and coral.) But we drove maybe a mile or so down the road and spent the day there just hanging on the beach and playing in the water.
A few great restaurants we ate at was next door at the Bull Shed and my daughter and I had a great breakfast at the Island Palms.
One more thing, if you plan to go on a fishing trip make sure the waters are CALM!

Room Tip: Try to get a ocean view.

Spent June 26 bthrough July 2 with my three sons at this resort to celebrate our 30th anniversary, (We booked two extra nights and sent the sons home due to airline problem --don't ask!) Booked a two room condo and it was spacious! sons took turns sleeping on pullout couch--not especially comfortable but no one really complained.

Property was lush--pool and grounds were exceptional. We cooked most meals and found all kitchen neccessities., There was room for all five of us within the condo. Eating area included stools at kitchen counter and table in living room were sufficient,. Also used lanai.

First day we ate at Oasis, Food was good but a little pricey. Enjoyed the pool and whirlpools on our last day,. Didn't really get to use them until then as we wanted to explore Kauaii. Resort is in a great central location. Nice ti be able to just walk across the street to the Safeway

Highly recommend this property. Only suggestions to management are to include ceiling fans in bedrooms and beach accessories--umbrellas, beach chairs. We come from East Coast and are used to stands on the beach renting these. Kauaii probably didn;t want to mar the natural beauty of the beaches and we probably could have rented from shops

Room Tip: If you're not going to be exploring Kauaii, spend extra to get ocean veiw. We had a parking lot...

While the property is fantastic, fun lazy river pool, great food, our room was less than fantastic. A fourth floor room with a " Mountain View." Really more like a " Safeway View, with a mountain behind it." Also, do not let them book you in D 405. Every time the elevator is used, you will hear it through duct system,, day or night! There were no other mountain views available, and they were unwilling to upgrade our room without a hefty charge. Our only solution was to run a fan all night to drown out the sound. Sad. Yes to the property, no to any mountain view rooms, and beware the elevator.

Room Tip: No to mountain views, unless you like looking at Safeway and listening to main road traffic.

We stayed in condo A304 this June - two married couples with two toddlers. We had an absolutely wonderful time and the condo was immaculate. This particular condo was one of only a handful in Waipouli Beach Resort to have complete, full views of the beach and ocean. The other condos in this resort had average to poor views from what we could see. We were so thankful we sprang for the view. It was amazing and came in handy, as the toddlers wanted to spend more time in the condo than we hoped. We didn't feel jipped because of the view. The pool is amazing, esp. the kid pool. Oasis restaurant is great and drinks are potent and delicious but
expensive. A304 was a great condo and we will definitely be back to it specifically (prob not the others) even though Kapa'a was not our favorite part of the island.
