Our stay at the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort was excellent. The location is excellent - close to grocery stores and other shopping. Being in Kapaa, it is easy to get to the beaches on the north shore and the activities and shopping along the south shore. It is only minutes from the airport, which was nice as our flight arrived relatively late and we did not have to drive far on unfamiliar roads in the dark. The beach out front is not recommended for swimming, but it is an excellent location to watch the sunrise from.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit. The units are modern, sleek and clean. The kitchen has high-end appliances and granite counters. Beds are comfortable and nearly everything was in fine working condition. The only thing that did not work in our unit was the safe, but we made due without. All resort staff we dealt with we're friendly and helpful. Housekeeping are efficient, although they missed our unit one day and we had to call for them to come by.

The pool area is fantastic and our daughter enjoyed playing in the water. We wished we would have left more time to simply enjoy the resort and hang around the pool a little more.

We would recommend this location to anyone new to the island or planning on spending time on both the north and south sides of the island or to anyone traveling with families that plan to spend a week or more on Kauai.

We just got back from a week stay in a 2/3 suite at Waipouli Resort - what a wonderful vacation. We had 4 in the room - us, our daughter and my mother. Our daughter LOVED the pool (and we loved that she was so happy). The setting of the pool is gorgeous and it's very nice to spend a few hours just lounging, enjoying the sun and water. The beach is a nice setting to enjoy quite time and to just listen to the ocean - though it isn't swimable (but with such a great pool it's not a big loss). The restaurant had yummy (though not inexpensive) food - it would be nice if you could order lunch and/or drinks from the pool area though. Decent deal on happy hour drinks. It's very centrally located with groceries, coffee, some dining and shops right across the street and only a 5 minute drive to old town Kapa'a (nice area for shopping and browsing). It's also central to other areas of the island - nothing is really more than an hour away (unless you get stuck in traffic somewhere). The rooms are very nicely appointed with huge bathrooms and soaking tubs, lovely beds, lots of windows, comfortable living rooms, great kitchens, and at least one lanai to relax on and enjoy the outdoors. We didn't get a room with a view but enjoyed having the ground floor so we could walk right out onto the grass behind our room (felt like our own back yard). Friendly staff and wonderful common areas. It was VERY windy for much of the trip - and with the direct ocean access it was all blowing right up through the pool area. Good thing is that there are little protected spots to sit in and get out of the wind (and I'm sure it's not always windy). All in all a great place to stay to enjoy the island of Kauai.

Room Tip: Seems a room with an ocean view from at least 2nd story or higher would be worth it here.

This is a beautiful resort which is well maintained and roomy. The pool area is excellent and includes a large swimming area and two small waterslides (and hot tubs). The units are very modern and the decor is beautiful.

Note that we had a room that faced the road and we would recommend trying to get a side room, pool room or a room facing the ocean as they would have less road noise (as the complex is very close to the road). Safeway is very close, which makes it really handy to get food and to save on going out to eat. The Oasis restaurant in the resort is very nice and we would recommend it - one nice feature is that it has half portions available.

One item which should be noted to the management is that the barbeques heat is very low and they should be cleaned in order to increase the cooking time.

We stayed at the Outrigger Waipouli Resort in March of 2010 in a 2-bedroom condo. Had a wonderful stay and thought the hotel grounds/rooms/amentiites were great.

Pros:
-thought location was great, there is a supermarket right across the street for you to stock the kitchen
-parking is plentiful and free
-the condo is very modern and luxurious, high-end appliances in kitchen, mahogany wood throughout and luxurious/spacious bathrooms
-entire resort very clean and well kept
-staff very friendly, no complaints about service
-great pool -- it's not too big but felt it was just the right size for the resort

Cons:
-Dining options at the resort is limited but again you have a gourmet kitchen at your fingertips so can't really complain about this

Booked for eight days through travel agent. Arrived before check-in time and room was ready at 3p as advertised. Kitchens are well equipped and modern, bedrooms comfortable. Air conditioning was not working the first evening creating an uncomfortable first night, but was repaired promptly the next morning at 8a with no further issues. Also had a dishwasher issue but again promptly repaired. Overall visit was enjoyable. The location is centrally located between the north shore and east shore. Safeway, Longs Drugs, and ABC Store across the street. Oasis Restaurant on site was convienent. May want to ask for room away from snack bar area and on upper floors to avoid evening noise. I'd come back to revisit again.

Room Tip: Poolside, upper floors away from snack bar and restaurant will be quieter
